I believe a lot of the older 8v vauxhall engines were non interference engines, but i wouldn't be too sure with these new 16v engines.

One of my mates used to run his Carlton till the belt snapped then get recovered and get his brother to fit a new one, we were all courier and minicab drivers back in the '90s. One lad on hearing this decided not to change the cambelt on his OMega, after all it was a 2.0 aswell, he should have asked one of the more knowledgable blokes, when the cambelt did snap it took the valves, head and one piston out, cost him £1500 to fix it.

Did you check that the spare wheel was under the boot of the car ?
Has it still got the load cover ?
    Offer him £2000 cash .
Check for water in the foot wells .
Is there much tread on the tyres ?
    Mot and tax till ?
Have you got insurance quotes ?
does it have alloys ? if it does theyre probably a "modification" that you must declare to the insurance company .
Are theyre wheel locking nuts ? is the wheel locking nut key present ?

the Zaffy is a fantastic car ... we had our 1.8 petrol comfort SE since 2001 - nearly new .... just got to 100k on the clock - very reliable - aprt from the EGR valve that went a few years back .... I'd like it to be more economical in these times but 32 mpg is ok i suppose.
Your 1.6 will do you fine ... maybe not as much poke as the MG especially when loaded with kids and stuff. And boy can you get loads of stuff in them .... bikes , trips to the tip ... Ikea to name but a few .

good luck ... let us know how you get on .

    Hi,
Ok thanks vikingaero i see what you mean..looked into soursing engines etc yesterday as know 2 people who have bought for other cars and looking at about £400..bit of work needed on that but yeah could work out a lot..like i said do we get any warning things are going wring and what do we look out for or is it a case of it just going bang?

    benham3160 thanks for that info

bigjl thanks..its an ecotec when the bonnet was lifted i think but again its a new engine so may that just be the old casing for it to go under..i suspect so..again not sure about the engine so much. Sounds silly but the bloke who got it (the car owners son) is a engineer so knows his stuff..or seemed to but still a gamble hey!

yes wheel under the car and all the bits to go with it.
Whats the load cover? sorry woman here!
No water in the foot wells and we have had a bit if rain here so..
Tyres look good as far as i can see, local garage did them (hubbys bro) and they came in at i think off the top of my head the £49 mark..better than our £80 each for our MG!
MOT & TAX till next march and april
Insurance not yet doing this morning are they highish?
No it doesnt have alloys, i noticed it had the covers secured with the cable ties but not a mark on it.
As for space yeah loads but fully loaded only enough room for the double buggy which is all i need. As for speed our MG is only a 1.3 and it goes fast enough for me but the zafira i was quite shocked at as it went really fast but only me and dd and the blooke in it so?!

Thanks for your input much appreciated.

    My plan today is:
Call garage again and ask them to say i called today..pop in and see man and tell him re cambelt and that i have £2k cash and hope he says yes..i have a feeling he will say sorry but still a good deal and then not say anything to the next person viewing but we will see..

    Fingers crossed!..x

Well the Zafira is parked outside!! I rang the garage and spoke to them to confirm no camblet and they said no, i went to my local garage that i use and asked them re costs and that I had been told £350ish and they said they would do for £200 if need be. They asked how much it was and then looked it up for me and said i should be looking at about £2400 which wasn't unreasonable but said good luck for fluttering my eyelahes to get some kocked off! I then went to the owner of the cars house and explained my issue with the cam and told him to have a think about it and call me..he ummed and ahhed then said are you happy if i knock the £200 off so i said yes and id'e be back later with the money. Bit of a faff collecting as i was very short for time yesterday and was going to get today but dd was itching to go in it so off we went and nervously drove home which was daft as literally one of our neighbours down the rd! Seems a lovely car, very quiet and smooth (apart from my dodgy clutch control at mo!!) but yeah nice. We all took it out last night when the rds clearer and it took me ages to work out how to put the lights on..they are on a switch to the right of the wheel not on the stick like the other car so that feels odd but sure i will get used to it! I have ordered new number plates this morning as one of my parents owns a car shop so am having those done as the current ones are grubby and the back one buckled..other than that i'm happy..for once dh would say!
