Hi,
Im thinking of buying a PDA and would appreaciate any help as I have never owned one before although I do have a desktop and a dell inspiron laptop.
The main uses of the PDA will be for ( if possible)
1.tomtom 6 ( at the moment I have tomtom 5 on a mobile phone , so the PDA must support tomtom 6 ( list at bottom of post ) A pda with built in GPS reciever would be best although I already have a stand alone one. Sucker to stick to windscreen is a must .
2. Internet???? Are PDAs wi fi enabled just like my dell laptop? Does this mean when at a wi fi spot ( obviously subject to payment or finding un encrypted) I can browse the web and check email? Do these thing have a browser like ie ? sorry for dumb question but never used one. Could I browse internet just like on a real PC or is it more of a wap style?
3 Mp3/ movie playback . At the moment I use a nokia mobile for this with output to extension speakers or headphones. A large HDD or at least SD slots would be good . Really the bigger the HDD the better as Tomtom 6 with European mapping is just under 1 gb then wouldnt mind room for some music as well . ( do I need to leave room for an OS like on a laptop?)
4 . A mobile phone. Do these PDAs work also as a mobile phone? Do they take PAYG sim cards or are you laughing whilst reading this? If so do they come unlocked to any network
4b. If not used as a mobile phone could I connect to internet , say at a hotel abroad on a wi fi spot and use software such as voipbuster to make free ( or almost free) voip calls?
5. Anything else? Do they have word? Suggestions please.
The compatable PDAs with tomtom 6 are pasted below. Many thanks in advance for any help/suggestions. Wouldn`t mind dell pda as happy with pc/ laptop dealings in the past.

On the internet you can be anything you want. It`s strange so many people choose to be rude and stupid.

A friend has just got a T-Mobile MDA III - nice bit of kit resold under lots of different names by the network providers. He hooked it up to home wi-fi no problem, yes you can browse the internet and play mp3. No hard disk though you can get SD cards of 2Gb now. He got a good price, £9.99, but had to go for an 18 month contract. I suspect if you want PAYG or an unlocked device you'll be paying ££ hundreds. Have a look an https://www.expansys.co.uk, the support forums for each device are pretty helpful.0
