Hanging low
My wifes car passed its MOT but an advisory was issued as the centre section of the exhaust has a small crack in it, and its hanging low.
She thinks she parked up over a kerb, and because it hangs low clonked it
I followed it the other night and it really does seem to sit away from the floor of the car, so my query is on a Citreon Picasso should it hang low?

If it's cracked, then it's leaking/dangerous and shouldn't pass an MOT.......
So either the garage have illegally passed it OR more than likely they're hoping to drum up some future trade.
I'd get another opinion at another garage, but DON'T tell them anything about what the other garage said.... If they find the exact problem all on their own, then fair enough.... If they find more problems then you've probably walked into crap-fit.“I may not agree with you, but I will defend to the death your right to make an a** of yourself.”

An exhaust fails if it is excessively leaking, that's about it really. A crack could be in an outer skin, or a crack not deemed an excessive "blow."
If the hanger has broken, it's not an MOT problem, they're just letting the customer know it's an issue. It's very common on these cars, why does everybody assume every garage is trying to rip them off?
There is a fault, somebody has pointed it out, what is the problem?

Crack was my fault, its blowing through a small hole, but passed the emmisions on the MOT0

Yeah cos having an exhaust flying out from the back of the car in front towards you as you're following at whatever speed is a real clever idea isn't it?
...assuming it doesn't dig into the ground and either bend the hell out of the floor of the car or flip the back end up in the air.

The exhaust is "hanging low" have a look under a few cars in your local supermarket.........
Don't call me a muppet, seems I'm the only one in this thread with some sort of idea what he's talking about.
I've never in many years dealt with a car when the exhaust has "flown out" the back of a car, the big bolts securing it to the car tend to prevent this!
If the tester has passed it, I'd assume the exhaust is doing a perfectly fine job, just one of the rubber hangers has snapped, there are several of them, not to mention the aforementioned manifold bolts.... I mean let the hole get bigger until it's causing a big problem.

Because 95% of them do.....
Any profession where the customer is often entirely ignorant to the technicalities of a product or service, is open for scammers and rip off artists to make a killing. The motor trade just happens to be one of the worst. As is evident from the sheer number of complaint's.“I may not agree with you, but I will defend to the death your right to make an a** of yourself.”

Well I have no complaints, they did not badger to replace the exhaust just advised it was blowing, which we already knew.
If I take it into ATS etc would they be able to replace the missing hanger for me?0 -

Mechanics earn very poor money compared to their skill, I really wish people would leave them alone.
When I get this nonsense from people, I'm the first to say "well, you do it then."

"Your exhaust is blowing, it hasn't failed the MOT, but I thought I'd just let you know it might need fixing soon".
Why are people taking issue with this?
Yes, a fast-fit centre or a mechanic should be able to diagnose what I'm assuming is a snapped rubber hanger. The car is perfectly safe to drive in the meantime (about 30% of cars on the road have this problem I guess!) and should be easy to rectify.
If the mount has snapped, a new section may be the only answer, but again it shouldn't be a massive expense.
