Travel money and cards

Hi All
Hope this is in the correct section.
The Girlfriend and I are planning our round the world trip which will be starting at the end of October! In a nutshell its africa, india, china, SE Asia and onto Australia. I have taken Voluntary Redunancy so currently unemployed.
My question is mainly about credit cards. Can anyone advise the best way forward with applying for them or are pre-paid my best option? I am currently with RBS current account which are supposed to be really bad for overseas money so should I change banks?
Bearing in mind the trip will be costing us approx £8k-10k, we would like not to pay through the nose!
Thanks

Halifax Clarity(for cash and purchases and only if you intend to pay the whole bill off strictly every month) and Post Office CC(for Purchases) are two options.0

Given you are unemployed you might have a "little" difficulty in getting new accounts / CCs - this is something you should have done BEFORE leaving work
Prepaying is not a good idea as it's against the T&Cs of most CCs so they'd be within their rights to charge interest on any cash withdrawals made on them plus they'll still charge any withdrawal fees.
I think at this stage you might have to seriously look at pre-paid cards of which there are currently several recommendations.
Try to have a number of such cards and keep them well separated so that if Things Do Go Wrong you aren't totally lost0 -
Yep I thought I might have difficulty now that I am unemployed, Can I find out before applying as I dont want anything bad on my history.
I would have applyed whilst still in employment but I was in debt. My girlfriend is still in employment so we will probably apply through her.
Thanks for the info, its all rather confusing!0
