FTB solicitors fees

Hi all.
We think we've found the house we want to go for (have another viewing booked), but want to make sure we're ready to go before putting an offer in.
We are cash buyers (I mean cash, no mortgage) so don't need to worry about getting that in place - however funds are together and ready and this can be proven to the EA.
We now want to get a solictor sorted. I know we should get at least 3 quotes, but what services should we be expecting to be a part of the quote. We'd be wanting a Homebuyers survey I know that much, but everything else I haven't got a clue.

They should list their own fees and then other fees - searches, stamp duty, land registry, telegraphic transfer etc - separately.
Check the small print for hidden extras.
Double check that they are not charging you for acting for a lender (as you are a cash buyer).
I'd ring up a few, as you say, get a feel for them, and ask them to send you their quote (email or post as you prefer). Then you can compare what they've put; some things should be the same, others will differ, and ask us if you've got any queries.
BTW, the Homebuyers survey is not arranged through your solicitor. As you're not getting a mortgage you'll need to instruct a surveyor separately, I think.0 -
A lawyer does legal work. A surveyor does surveys. Different people different jobs.

Good summary there - I agree. Surveyor is separate although sometimes local solicitors will be able to recommend surveyors - then you phone the surveyors up and ask them questions rather like you would with a solicitor and get a feel for whether you you will get good service from the man you talk to.RICHARD WEBSTER
