My wife started carrying out beauty treatments from home i.e waxing, nails, manicures reiki etc. We informed current insurer, Zurich, who wouldnt now cover so were forced to find an insurer who would and finished up with FORTIS with premiums almost X3. Admittedly we had made 3 claims n the previous 5 years so tha wouldnt have helped.
Renewal will be due next month, has anyone any experience or knowledge of insurers covering employment from home as decribed?
I know there are probably countless beauticians/hairdressers who do so but they may not have advised insurer and we wouldnt want to run risk of any future claim being dismissed for non disclosure.

What causes the problems are the visitors to the home in connection with a business which Insurers do not like which is why home insurers tend to avoid home workers with regular visitors to the home.
The other issues are that you need additional covers for your business eg stock and liabilities etc and that you have the three claims.
It might be worth having a look at some of the trade associations for beauticians and the like as they often have schemes with Insurers, schemes such as these can often be cheaper (And often include cover bespoke for their trade) as they have a bigger client base of beauticians so the Insurers can make more informed decisions on the actual chances of a claim.
Get her to have a look at adverts for Insurers in her trade magazines, I have googled trade organisations for her here http://www.google.co.uk/#hl=en&source=hp&q=beauticians+association&aq=4&aqi=g1&aql=&oq=beauticians+!!!&gs_rfai=&fp=f7fa047431f46a3f
P.S Once the claims get older the premiums should reduce0
