AcroRd32.exe always running??

Everytime I check with Task Manager (Windows 2000) for processes that are draining memory the Acrobat Reader file AcroRd32.exe appears in the top 5?
Yet the application is not running?
It also fails to shut down correctly when I turn off the pc - forcing me to "End Now" to get the pc to shut off.
Has anyone else had this problem? I have uninstalled all components and reinstalled the latest version direct from Adobe but it still seems to continue running in the background?

Try Foxit if you're getting sick of Adobe.

I switched a while back, Acrobat has become a bit too bloated for my liking. Foxit is great, it doesn't install any behind-the-scenes stuff either. It's just an app that opens PDF's, nothing more. Plus it's very light on resources, oh and free."Boonowa tweepi, ha, ha."0 -
It may in Start > Programs > Startup as Adobe quick launch of similar - you can right click & delete...A fine is a tax for doing wrong. A tax is a fine for doing well.0

Thanks wolfman - Have deleted it (all 65MB of it!) and tried Fox It which works fine as a viewer (but only 1.5MB!!) did you noticed a drop in the quality of pdf's or is it just me?0

Always been ok for me. Is it on all pdf's?
When you say drop in quality what do you mean? Fonts look pixelated? Pictures look poor?
Much better in terms of size though eh. And it's uses less memory and it loads so much faster."Boonowa tweepi, ha, ha."0
