I'm just ringing around for some quotes-
Ive got one for £650+vat with a RICs registered firm. 30page report for a 3 bed detached house- greater london
Does that sound reasonable? What have other mse people paid?
(i mean building surveys as apposed to homebuyers reports)
also what is the difference between a structural survey and a building survey- if any?

I'm no expert - but from what i understand a full structural survey is now called a building survey (so effectively they are the same thing - or so i've been told by a registered surveyor!)
I've had quotes ranging from £350-£750 plus VAT for a 4 bed semi in the Midlands. I'm going with one that's £550 plus VAT as the guy seemed much more professional....he emailed me terms and conditions and a sample report, in addition to a copy of his liability insurance (plus he was recommended to me by a friend who is a commercial surveyor).
If i were you, i'd try to go with someone who had been recommended. Alternatively get a range of quotes and go for one in the middle who has a decent turnaround time and liability insurance!
Good luck0
