Hi all,

If I close my Santander current account will they make me close my Santander Zero credit card?

Many thanks

  • CC and current account are totally independent of each other. The bank wouldn’t want to close the card
(presuming the account is in ‘good standing‘).

You do not need to bank with Barclays to hold a Barclaycard.
  • they might change the card to the normal santander cc. As the Zero is linked to your current account or mortage account.

    Ok, thanks.

It was just a thought as some banks say some credit cards are only available to current account holders of that bank.

The only time you have to keep a current account open with this organisation is when it is linked to a savings account. Credit card accounts are totally independant of current accounts

The Santander website says that the Zero credit card is "Exclusive to our current account mortgage or investment customers."

You can only apply for it online by logging on to internet banking, -which only existing customers will have.

Under "other ways to apply" it says: "To become eligible for this great product, apply for a current account today"

It's becoming common for some banks to limit their credit cards to current account customers only. You can only apply for an HSBC credit card if you already have a current account with them, and that's always been the case with First Direct. NatWest were limiting their credit card to current account customers for a time, but have now opened the platinum card to other applicants.

Yorkshire and Clydesdale Banks are now current account customers only if you apply online, otherwise you have to apply in a branch, (where, no doubt, they will do their best to sell you a current account).
