Adult Dependant Grant Confirmation of Income

I have just recieved an 'Adult Dependants grant (ADG) Confirmation of Income Academic Year 1009/10' letter from SFE.
I am F/T HE student not working. My wife has not worked since 2005, we have 3 children (5,4 and 2 yrs). We have no private income.
In previous years when asked for evidence of no income(!) we have sent a signed declaration to that effect.
I would like to know the following;
1. In relation to benefits, what counts as dependant's income? (we are required to send proof of CTC, CB)
2. Does who receives the benefit make a difference? (e.g. CTC is paid into my a/c, my wife is 'responsible adult' for 1 child, and I am for other 2 for CB)
3. What are the income levels for me/dependant to recieve max ADG?
4. What are the relevant 'financial commitments' - are they offset against income?
5. Any links to independant sources of reliable info regarding figures used for assessments? - not SFE/Direct.Gov site.
Thanks in advance for any assistance.

I also got one of these letters, but we didn't get any adult dependents grant! We were told last year that our entitlement was £0. So I don't know why I have to send off evidence of everything.0

Pardon my ignorance, but what is this grant, and what is it used for?Loving the sunny days!0

when calculating your household income, in particular to applying for adult dependents grant and parents learning allowance on pn1 section 9, do you have to include payments from insurance policies for unemployment. the tax man hmrc is not interested and disregard this as income for both tax and tax credits. please can someone clarify. i have just been awarded both pla and adg0

Hi,
Not sure if anyone can help with this or not but my partner has also received a letter asking for confirmation of my earning for academic year 2009/10 - the problem is my income was much higher for this period (approx 23k) than the period that this assessment was originally based on (approx 12k as I was on maternity leave for the majority of this year). I am now concerned that SF will ask us to pay this money back which we just can't afford at the moment. I don't understand why SF didn't ask us to provide an estimate of our income for 2009/10 instead of asking for evidence of income for 2007/08 - can anyone help as I'm really worried and would never have applied for this if I'd know this was the case0 -

Hi im not sure but what they said when i spoke to them was all income that came into the house during that period and was emphasising any kind of income, so i would asume so but hopefully someone will come along and give you a definate answer0 -

hi guys,
i have for several days been lookin into this 'request of confirmation of income' especially as i ddnt get ADG as me and my partner were both students! I have already sent a letter disputing this request and advising and referring them back to the EVIDENCE sent back in APRIL as required then this included partner's sfe financial notification, no income as he is a student too and part time work excl and financial committments listed from mortgage, insurances, home improvements to credit card payments, loans and travel expenses from receipts etc.
the guidance says ONLY income from 2007/8 would be used in my case for the remainder of the degree but, they keep askin for stuff cause .. maybe they can't afford to stick to what they initially said? ...cause to start with i read on the guidance you would supply income for tax year prior yr when commencing course and as a continuing student no longer need to submit any yrs again but, maybe they're 'ambiguous advise ' causes confusion all round.
i refused to complete the recent confirmation form because i sent them all bills etc and the situation is still the same as it was in april and will see what happens before their deadline 10-11th october to have sent it in ...
sad this process and continuous requests is endless and frustrating they should just ask for prior yr's income/financial committments once each yr not keep asking it is so confusing and above all one has to dig up the 2009-10 financial committments again and in my case these have not been sent back since APRIL i have searched everywhere for them so i will again struggle to give them all the 09/10 stuff it'll now be the 10/11 i can show for it..
please anyone update if u have sent in the evidence again/what they've said.
ps. your income being under £25k pa generally means you are entitled to the max loan and grant, coupled with financial commitments and children and dependants etc you will definitely get the PLA, CCG and ADG etc, i wouldn't worry about the salary increase and besides you can choose to prepay any overpayment if any in monthly payments aside and so your entitlement won't be reduced to the point of leaving you suffering all year from financial problems!
update anyone?0 -
Surely if your partner is a full time student and receives the full finance package he can't be dependent on you?0

you are correct! why did they send me the adults dependent grants income confirmation form as we were both students? this is my exact questions? i did not receive ADG 2009/10 as we were both students, however 2010/11 i have applied as he is no longer a student. so the 2009/10 form raises confusion,...0
