Tesco not accepting refund

I bought a basket in a Tesco Extra which is about 10 miles from me, however when i got home i realised it was not the price i thought it was so i went to take it back to my local tesco, which is less than a mile away. they told me that i could not refund it here as they do not sell this item, and i was to take it back to the original store. i asked if they could not just refund it and send it back and they said they can't as they have nowhere to store it.

I've never heard this before, if i buy something from tesco i expect to be able to return it to any tesco.

Anyone have any ideas on this one?

Yep I have had that, if your local store isnt a Tesco Direct then you cant return it.

Just call them and they will collect it for you and refund direct into your bank.

I think its a fair point from Tesco because they only have limited warehouse space so I agree that the non direct stores shouldnt take any direct store products, being as they will pick it up for free there is no problem.

  • I never got it from direct. i took it back to my next local and they took it back fine and they don't sell all that stuff either. weird lol
  • Keri they should have taken it back, even if they didn't stock the item. My Mum has recently retired, but she worked on the customer services desk of a smaller store (no clothes, electricals etc, I think it might have been a Metro). She would get a bit frustrated at having to deal with people returning TVs and clothes etc as there was nowhere to put them, but since Tesco policy dictated that you can return items at any store that's what she had to do. (she wasn't all moany at the customers tho lol, not their fault, just at the tiny space she had for returned goods!)

    It's only a game

Well legally you dont have the right to return it full stop. That goes for exchanges and credit notes too so just be happy that you can return it.

If they want to be nice and allow you to return it, then its more than fair that they ask you to return it to the correct place so they dont waste time and effort on your mistake.

OF course if their policy states otherwise then thats fine but i cant find it?
    Back by no demand whatsoever.

If it was a Tesco express you tried to return it to then they can't accept returns from other stores. Otherwise you can return it to any Tesco Extra, Superstore or Metro. Try again and if you get no joy, call customer services - 0800 505555.
