  • - the leaning tower..... you can get tickets online in advance if you want to go up - we didn't bother going up..... and then after that I'd get a train ( station near to the leaning tower - it's not the main station) and go to Lucca which is a beautiful walled town about half an hour away.

I went to Pisa last autumn for a short break and visited Florence one day and Pisa and Lucca the next day.
Actually we went to Lucca first - got a cheap local ticket from the kiosk seller at the main station - and then visited the leaning tower on the way back , getting off at the station near the tower. Station is San Rossore

    Enjoy!

We flew into and out of Pisa earlier in the year. From what I saw (driving around to find petrol station open to fill up hire car) there's very little to make me want to spend a day there. Someone else suggested getting a train to Lucca - this is a very attractive town with ancient walls that you can walk round and easily spend a day there.
loose does not rhyme with choose but lose does and is the word you meant to write.

Pisa is not a large town. Around the tower there are lots of stalls to look at and some lovely shops and resturants to go in. You will need to get a taxi, bus or train to the tower. Lucca is lovely old walled town. You can walk all the way around the walls and then go into the town to look at the shops. :j

Although it's not Florence or Lucca, don't discount Pisa as suitable for a day trip. Undoubtably the main area is the square with the leaning tower - the Piazza dei Miracoli. Not cheap, but I would definately climb up to the top of the tower. There's something very strange about climbing up stairs when they lean down - you have to try it, to understand what I mean. The cathederal is also definately worth a visit.
On a day trip it's easy to spend the rest of the time walking around the old town, the river, taking in the sights, looking at the shops, and stopping off in cafes.
We got a local bus from the airport to the station (took about 10 minutes), and then I think it's about a 20 minute walk to the square. There's a tourist office by the station, with free maps.
I wouldn't want more than a day in Pisa - there are much nicer places in Tuscany if you've more time - but I've no doubt you'll enjoy your trip.
