where do you buy food/household items in bulk?

Options
Hi I noticed that lots of people buy stuff on here in bulk.
Where can i buy in bulk from?

Do some cash and carries let individuals in? Or are they all trade?
many thanks:D

  • Costco all the way. You've gotta join though, and fit the 'joining criteria' (own business/work in education/health/local authority etc)

Then you can buy super-size boxes of all kinda goodies, with the best customer services you could imagine

sounds like a dream land ;)

my girlfriends parents go there, maybe i'll tag along to get some goodies one time.
  • I go to Costco every 2 or 3 months. It costs about £25 + vat to join and I'm lucky that I get a card through my Dad's business.

I tend to buy the same things each time. Massive boxes of wasing powder, big jars of mayonnaise, toothpaste, nice pasta etc. Whilst it can work out cheaper for some things, often if an item is on offer at a supermarket it doesn't make sense to buy at Costco. Once I'd been a few times I got wise to what was a good buy or not. I think it's twice a year they send out some "Passport" vouchers which make the washing powder loads cheaper - a few weeks ago Persil Non-Bio worked out at about £22 for 2 HUGE boxes (90 washes a box) - should last me a while ;) .

At xmas Costco is great, they have loads of presents (toys, hampers, alcohol gifts) at good prices and they'll have different things you wouldn't find elsewhere.

To me, at Costco you can get some great buys but there's a big initial outlay (as with most bulk buying) and make sure you know your supermarket prices to compare against - Costco isn't always cheaper.

Agree Costco is good & to watch prices.
Tesco can be great for BOGOF's as well.

  • Not sure if all Asda stores have this but my local one does, they do some things in bulk now. Might be worth checkin out if you can't get a Costco card but Costco is Brill I got a card through work. There is also Makro but once again is like Costco you must fall into a catogery before you can get a card.
    Happy shopping

TBH - I don't find costco to be very cheap - well, certainly not for us anyway.

    Hi there

We are Costco members and find that for certain things they are way cheaper. Washing powder and softner for one. Their meat quality is superb as well as a number of things.

Just like anywhere you need to keep an eye on prices and see if it is cheaper to buy from them.

Costco is not cheap - it is good value for money. You may pay the same as in the shops for certain things, but the quality will be higher, or the standard higher (for instance extra warranty on electrical items). Certainly their returns policy is second to none.

As for other cash and carry's - you should be able to blag your way into a Booker cash & Carry. I certainly did :-)
