Hi
I work for Social Services with young people in the Leaving Care Team. We are looking at getting 5 laptops today for young people who are at College or University.
We need to buy them from the high street i.e. Dixons, currys etc and looking for ideas of what we should be buying, price, spec etc.
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated although we only have this morning to get ideas.
Thanks for any help
Jules

Perhaps you could say what they're going to be used for, then maybe someone can suggest a spec etc.
Having looked at when you posted this, you didn't give anyone much time - did ya!0 -
A lot of companies will give discounts for educational use and for bulk buys. Apple certainly give sustantial educational savings and I know Hewlett Packard will do buld deals. It rerally depends what you/or your clients want to do with the laptops-- that will dictate the specs and that will largely dictate price. If you are in Social Services there must be someone in your (or council's) IT dept who can help and they may already have existing relationship woith suppliuer which will guarantee a good bulk deal/discount. No point in re-inventing the wheel if there's a quick and easy way to hand!
If that's not feasible I would be tempted to quickly ring around a few suppliers and say "I'm going to buy five laptops for students what's the best deal you can offer me?" Let them know you are claling other suppliers and will make the decision shortly and then go with the best.Just because somebody is certain doesn't mean they are right!0 -
As my peers have said already, please let us know what the notebooks will be used for and the expertise of the users. We need to buy them from the high street i.e. Dixons, currys etc
I'm not sure why you have said that they need to buy them from the High Street, you would do far better buying from a local PC dealer. Of course, you may already have a relationship with a supplier.
BTW, never get taken in by the 'headline' price. There are all sorts of other things that need to taken into consideration; software, support, training, spares. Cutting costs is usually a false economy...0 -
