Alliance and Leicester/Santander Pending payments

I have had a problem this month with Santander..online account. I have had an available balance and an actual balance which differed by approx. £350 The available balance was £350 less than actual. This was like it for approx. 8 days and included the bank holiday. It was as if there was a pending payment but I had nothing else to come out.As a result a direct debit was returned and I get a £25 charge. I also have got £100 in charges for an unauthorised overdraft when a) I had not reached it's limit and b) I had nothing else to come out of my account. What is the best way to tackle the bank about this?
I have to say since the migration I don't like the way my account has been running, I knew exactally where I was on a daily basis with Alliance and Leicester but now things go out at all times of the day..like Today at approx. 6pm there was another direct debit for Orange went out, why was that not showing this morning? We always use out overdraft and can anyone advise which back would be best to think of moving to for a good online service which would honour a £1100 overdraft facility and is as good a service as the old Alliance and Leicester please !

I have had exactly the same problem since the migration. My balances are always wrong, and I've had money appear in my account, then disappear the next day. I logged in over the weekend and my overdraft had doubled. I logged in again yesterday and it was back to what it was. It's crazy. I'm waiting for payday next week so i can clear my overdraft and shut the account, I've already switched to natwest, they matched my overdraftDebt free and staying that way! :beer:0

I rang Santander today and explained the problem, the lady ( very helpful) said they had had a lot of problems with charges that shouldnt have been applied. She has withdrawn the charges of £125 placed on the account last night and cannot say other than a direct debit going out twice is where the £350 disappeared to ! I was asked to bear with them while the problems are sorted out with the online banking system !!!:rotfl::rotfl:0

Its all well and good sending us letters about joining Santander (not that we had the choice) but not informing us of the muck-up they appear to have made.
My online banking was blocked, I phoned to ask why and was given a lame-!!! reason and reset my PIN.
Week and half later, gets the PIN tries to login, same blocked message.
Spoke to someone else, explained the situation, she said she 'unblocked' it and it would be available in 10mins.
40mins later still no joy, speaks to them for a 3rd time only to find the previous woman had sent another PIN - cancelling the new one!
So 2 weeks in, no online or telephone banking - god only knows whats happening with my money.
After 6 years of loyality to A&L and no hassle at all, I feel I have no choice but to move banks :mad:0 -
Its been doing this for a while. I had 2 A&L current accounts and could instantly transfer money between them. Then the lag appeared, and one day they lost £300. Along queue to the 3 people still working in their call centre and they insisted that 24 hours was always the case for intra account transfers.....0

same here I had always been able to have instant transfers between my a/l accounts now it takes 24 hours and the lady in the call centre was adament that this had always been the case. i advised her she was wrong and i had several years bank statements in front of me that could prove it. have now arranged to transfer acc so soon no a/l acc to worry about.0 -

I have been having the exact same problem for nearing 5 weeks now ! Nearly all of my debit card transactions are duplicated and taken off my available balance twice. At one stage instead of holding £400 odd they held £916 even though the original transactions had cleared out of my account and were visible on my statement. I have been phoning nearly daily and getting nowhere! Most of my phonecalls baffle call centre staff and I am on hold most of the time while they look into it ..... majority of my calls last up to 1 hour ! I have better things to do than sit on the phone to them every other day. They just keep telling me that there was a blip in the system when they changed over to Santander from Alliance & Leicester. Now I am screaming and fighting with them because in total over 5 weeks they have duplicated 44 transactions. On numerous occassions they have left me very little funding in my account! All they say when I phone is we are sorry and will pass it on to the card services team which will take 48 hours to fix, but by that stage they have duplicated more and I need to start the process of phoning and complaining all over again. I now have an appointment to see a solicitor to get a letter sent to them to get this fixed once and for all. I am also putting in for compensation in the form of £28 per duplicated transaction ...... because isnt this the charge they charge me when I make a mistake and go over my overdraft by as little as 50p! I am very angry because they dont seem to take the complaint serious and think that by sorting it every 48 hours it is acceptable, even though they repeat the problem every 24 hours ! I am sick and tired of the lack of customer service and want to resolve this issue now.
I went through all my paperwork yesterday and have it now on file that in fact I am at a whopping 51 double debits. I am getting some back but then something else is double debited. I threw the towel in with the bank this morning and handed the entire matter over to a solicitor ! Heres hoping I will get a result. Now I am angry and I am going for compensation and going to hit them where it hurts most ... THEIR pocket.

This is what worries me with my problems that are stopping me having access to my account via the internet. I know what should legitimately going out of my account and it's covered but if they start doubling up payments (or not making them) the charges are going to be a nightmare to sort out.
As it is I have to go to my landlord and ask them if I've paid them this month and how much. What a completely unprofessional Muppet of a tenant I'm going to sound like, if there has been a problem I've not been here long enough to point to my history to show I am reliable. Saying oh "my bank might be making mistakes and I have no control over my own money" sounds just like a grown up version of "the dog ate my homework".Santander are awful - mission in life is to warn people since 17-Sep-10, 18-Sep-10 realised one of thousands.0
