help with program removal?

Hi, Somehow Malware Doctor has got on my laptop. xp pro. It,s saying malware found and requires money to remove.I suspect it,s scareware. However, I cannot remove the program from comp. For some reason it,s not letting me uninstal the normal way. Any help would be much appreciated.I am running Malwarebytes now, just downloaded it free, it,s showing malware already, doing full scan.I want to remove the scareware.

What antivirus do you use? You should be able to run it on a complete scan, could take a couple of hours, and it should remove it.

If it's the one I'm thinking of then I hate to tell you but the only way to get rid of it is to reinstall your computer.

Please ignore the advice given in post #2.

Download, install, update and run a Quick Scan with Malwarebytes' AntiMalware. When complete, choose 'Remove Selected' if there is anything to remove and Reboot your computer.

After restart, open the program again and go to 'Logs'. Double click on the log produced for today and post the contents here.

Next, download, install and run the HijackThis Version 2.0.3 installer and use the Quick Start guide to enable you to produce a log for posting here too.

Hi, Thanks for reply. Did full scan and Malwarebytes found 15 trojans, and several rogues, which were mostly Malware doctor, said problem, now quaranteened.Don,t know how this got on comp, and showed up as actual antimalware program.By quaranteening it, it no longer appears in add/remove.It,s now been sorted, but shows how easy these scareware scams are done.

Why should the OP ignore me? I've had it and SUCESSFULLY removed it though my antivirus.

    Because you wrote this:

That directly contradicts what you had written in your first sentence and also in your subsequent post.

Also, you didn't advise the OP on which antivirus solution that he should depend to remove it. Obviously the one they are using had allowed it to install in the first place. So I certainly wouldn't depend on a scan from that to remove it.

So your post was a bit...unhelpful.

Are you actually using all of those Toolbars? Remove them in Uninstall Programs via Control Panel, starting with Inbox, followed by Google and Live.

Then create another HijackThis Log and tick and fix any entries that have anything to do with those Toolbars, including these entries:

    R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Page_URL = http://g.uk.msn.com/USCON/2

You can leave the Microsoft/MSN entries unticked, according to your preference.

Next, the Search Enhancement Pack, do you want to keep it?

Are you actually using all of those Toolbars? Remove them in Uninstall Programs via Control Panel, starting with Inbox, followed by Google and Live.

Then create another HijackThis Log and tick and fix any entries that have anything to do with those Toolbars, including these entries:

    R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Page_URL = http://g.uk.msn.com/USCON/2
    R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = http://toolbar.inbox.com/search/disp...b_id&%language

    Remove it.

    Go to Start and copy and paste the following in to the search bar in the bottom left hand corner: msiexec /x {299CF645-48C7-4FA1-8BCD-5CE200CF180D}
When the link appears, double click to uninstall the pack.
