Has anyone else had this beta product arrive on their Gmail account?

It sorts your mail based on what you read and reply to, then offers it to you in 3 different sections, Important and unread, Starred and the rest. Once you have read an important email it sends it to the "the rest" section.

Bit that gets me is, am I happy about gmail having so much interest in what I am or am not reading - NO I'm damned well not, but I don't suppose declining this tool will change that.

This clip explains what it does. http://mail.google.com/mail/help/intl/en-GB/priority-inbox.html
My first reply was witty and intellectual but I lost it so you got this one instead :D

  • The system will be algorithm based, so I highly doubt anybody actually reads your emails.

On top of that even declining the service wouldn't change the potential for your data to be insecure.

So far as the service goes, it is just a personalised method of sorting your emails, as you can see it is purely based on what you do on your account. Not using it is completely up to you, there is no obligation for it other than having a cleaner inbox.

I realise that, but I wasn't happy at being reminded of the insecurity.

That said, the tool itself seems very good. I love having all of my starred mail right there near the top of the page. It reminds me of why I stared it and what I meant to do about it :)

It is only an extension of the spam filter - think of it as that if it makes you feel better.

You can change which categories appear and which order they are displayed in too if you haven't found the settings for it yet.

Still no sign of an option to avoid having your emails strung together in 'Conversations', whether you like it or not...

    Use a local email client...
  • Every email provider has certain drawbacks. I actually like having conversations strung together. If I didn't, I wouldn't use gmail.
  • yeah I tried it before 2 days and it looks good but we need to set few email as important or not important and its kind of filter I guess.

I'd not found that yet, it sounds interesting. Thanks.
