Haven holiday (be aware!)

  • You book the caravan direct with the owners and then just buy the passes from recpetion when you arrive. When you book via Haven you dont any kind of discount on the passes anyway so by going direct with the owner and purchasing the passes when you arrive you dont lose out on anything! - Many of the "owned" caravans also have much better facilities and many of the owners also seem to provide things like games consoles, board games, books, toys - brilliant if you're going with the kids!!!
  • Only downside I can see is if there is a problem with van they might not have a spare for you but company will be more likely to! Just another thing to think about!

  • Fair point however when we were at a Haven park last year we had a leak in the caravan and they had nothing else to offer us! - eventually someone came and fixed the leak - the day before we were due to leave!
  • When you book a private van the owners should provide you with the paperwork for you to get the passes, the park will have been informed of you arrival ( forms have to be sent 4 weeks before the holiday) so the passes should be ready for you and all you have to do is pay. The forms are duplicated so Haven get the top (white) copy and you get the bottom (yellow) copy.
In the 11 years we have been letting there has never been a problem where the guests needed to be moved.

While I appreciate it is not likely it can happen!

Just looked at that site and they seem pricey to me but i go off season and go for the Sun deals or late deals.

BTW how much do the independant caravan owners charge for a pass roughly ?

We looked at the Sun deals for Cala Gran, and it actually worked out more expensive with The Sun deal than direct through Cala Gran for 2 adults 2 children when you factor in the Funworks passes, Gas/Electric, bedding etc.

Also, with private vans, don't you still have to pay the gas/electric surcharge?

We paid £105 for the Bank holiday week (mon-fri) which was school holidays at Caister Haven, that included all the charges, thought that was a fantastic price for school holidays
  • The price for the passes are set by Haven not the owners so you pay whatever price Haven want for that time of year and length of stay. ( Haven prices vary slightly depending on park)

Private caravans you do not have to pay for any gas or electric its all included in the price ( well we dont and I have never seen another caravan charging for it)
