got a text from Aquote regarding money owed for renewal...they seem havent collected the money as i dont have same card as i paid last year

called them and they said i owe them 450 etc etc..
now if i cancel they say it ll cost me 130.00

is it right that i can cancel for free within 14 days of taken insurance or thats not valid for renewal?

I assume it depends on what you signed up to?

I've had insurance that auto-renews unless i say otherwise and insurance that expires if i fail to act on it doing so at renewal time.

Mind you if they fail to claim the money i'm sure the insurance would be invalid after a period of failure to pay.

I'd suggest you find the document / T's and C's you signed.
They could be trying it on or you could be liable.

Also was your other insurance with the same people and did it have a discount on it based on a multi vehicle / insurance policy premium?
  • no, dont have any other insurance with them

i know the reneval business is a a piece of rubble, of 4 insurances i have none of them is with auto reneval, somehow this seem to be(havent seen papers yet) and its the only one i havent notified of address change...
i called them again and pointed 14 days cooling period .. a woman who could speak with 100 miles per hour i think said now i m liable for 46 pounds if i cancel... 14 for cancelation and the rest for paperwork/change of address..
hope i find the papers and see whats in their store!

I think you will find that you need to cancel before the renewal date. The insurance companies normally send you a letter stating the renewal premium several weeks before the renewal date. They regard this as giving you reasonable notice that they are going to auto renew.

I had the same thing happen to me with car insurance. At first I wasn't too bothered as I knew the credit card details they had were out of date. Unfortunately, my credit card company decided to honour the request for payment. I did eventually get my money back but it was a lot of hassle.

You are liable for continuing authority and I would pay up rather than have a record of insurance default recorded against me.

Is it £130 or £46 cancellation fee?

It could still be stolen. If you don't use it sell it or I would suggest you might want to reconsider cancelling insurance.

  • unlikely to be stolen mate, as it s never eben in safer place... before as i rented it would battle with rain, snow thieves in streets.. now is secured with same chains as before but in my back garden.

46 pounds cancellation fee , upset as been insured for 200 something fullycom for last 3 years and noy its 400+
will cancel, and see for a better quote, got 6 years no claim bonus etc

Most insurers will sting you with a heafty increase at auto renewal. It is best to shop around, but ofcourse you know that now. An expensive lesson.

Insurance has risen for most this year. Good luck finding a competive quote.
