Football boots/rugby studs?

DS is about to start playing rugby at school. The uniform list said that either football boots or rugby boots were fine so we got football ones (only ones we found since they also have to be velcro-fastening, plus he also plays football on weekends). Now they're saying that the studs have to be rugby ones  Found some online that look ok http://www.prodirectrugby.com/prodinfo.asp?DPID=PDR-009-032-001&GROUP=STUDS but I'm not sure if these will fit a child's boot - he's only a size 13? Anyone know or have other suggestions where I might find them?
Thanks!
Thanks!

I'm no expert, I'll admit, so I don't know if there's any difference between football studs and rugby studs - but are they going to check each individual child's boots before lessons to see if they have the right studs in? Sorry, but they've already made you pay over the odds for velcro boots - tell them to jog on. I would be making loud noises to the head about possible discrimination/exclusion of children whose parents are on limited incomes.

Thanks CWR, I'd agree with you except that it's a private school... Incidentally that doesn't mean that the parents are made of money, quite the contrary (and don't get me started on the lack of state school places in our Borough, that's a whole different story). And yes, DH would tell them to take a hike (on this and other subjects), we're paying customers after all, but I feel it's the children who would end up paying for it so I tow the line...0

There is a big difference between football and rugby studs,( i played rugby for 6 years.) Rugby ones must be all metal like the ones in the link. Football ones are often hard plastic.
The ones in the link should fit a childs boot, it is a fairly standard sized fitting. The trouble with the world is that the stupid are cocksure and the intelligent are full of doubt.Bertrand Russell0 -
Also you are actually not allowed to wear football studs if you are playing rugby, and they do check before matches.
It is very easy to injure someone if you have football studs on.
However i often wore 'moulded' boots, i had Adidas Predators and they were fine. The trouble with the world is that the stupid are cocksure and the intelligent are full of doubt.Bertrand Russell0 -
Ah well, Gs&Bs I did say I wasn't an expert, was just going by my experience of my 3 lads playing rugby at school and they just used football boots and didn't need special studs even when playing other schools.
Cissi, perhaps your OH had parents like mine who backed the school in every decision no matter how daft, thus I have gone a bit the other way and am probably classed as a 'challenging parent' - I've always wondered if they didn't give DS1 the head boy job because of a daily conflict with DS2 and his dreadlocks - they ended up rewriting the uniform policy because of usOver futile odds

If he is a forward and he is wearing football boots look forward to his toes being black and blue from being trod on while scrumming. The truth may be out there, but the lies are inside your head. Terry Pratchett

rugby studs are pretty standard threads, it is dangerous to play rugby in football studfs, as they do not have rounded edges like rugby studs, also football studs are often nylon which can wear away into a burr and rip your le to shreds when rucking over.
you can normally get away with playing football in rugby studs though. a tip is before you screw them in put a small dabof vaseline on the thread, and it makes them get less mud in the thread and makes them easier to change. all coaches should be checking studs before a trainign session with under 18s until they are old enoguh to check themselves for rough edges.saving for more holidays0 -
I still have a lovely scar on my left knee caused by a worn plastic football stud acting like a razorblade when I tackled someone whilst playing rugby.
This was over 25 years ago and shortly after this nylon studs were banned from rugby boots.
If there isn't an issue using rugby studs to play football, just swap them for metal rugby studs.0 -
