Some people might like one of the additional features. It's also supported until 2020, and not until 2015 like the Home Premium.
complete rubbish. this will not affect you. infact I'd be suprised if windows XP becomes unsupported by then (currently due 2014) let alone windows 7 being dumped....
By all means by the professional edition if you need to operate as a server for a particularly complex home networking setup.
otherwise you're wasting money on features you will not use.
eg, think about specific features of XP professional you have used/missed on your old machine over 8 years, i imagine it will be very short0 -
just wanted to ask, you do know with a lot less money than buying a new system money (less than £100) you could get your current system running more than well enough for the tasks you have posted about?
i know it is nice to get a nice shiny new computer, but with being money saving expert and all that i just thought i would let you know there is other options than spending ~£600 on a new system
anyways out of the 2 i hate to say it the PB is looking the better buy (and i agree that there is very little need for windows 7 pro, home premium is more than good enough), however i would say to look at the custom build option as they do give you more flexibility.
DinoPC appear to have a few very good priced systems at the moment so would be worth while looking into,
i have always found Cyberpower to have very good customisation options,
Novatech seems to get good things said about them
please note i have not used any of the above companies myself since i always build my own just going on what i see on the websites with prices and specDrop a brand challenge
on a £100 shop you might on average get 70 items save
10p per product = £7 a week ~ £28 a month
20p per product = £14 a week ~ £56 a month
30p per product = £21 a week ~ £84 a month (or in other words one weeks shoping at the new price)0 -
Stick some ram and a new hard disk in it, or just have a cleanup, and it will probably last another 8 years.!!

Can't be complete rubbish when I got 2 thanks for it and you none
. Ok, my post is 12 hours older
I don't want to join your speculations whether MS may or may not extend the lifecycle of it's products. I just stated the facts known today
http://support.microsoft.com/gp/lifeselectindex#W
Edit: MS didn't extend the lifecycle of XP because of home users, it was because of business users not wanting to upgrade.By all means by the professional edition if you need to operate as a server for a particularly complex home networking setup.

I didn't suggest that anybody should buy the professional edition. I only said that "some people" might need the additional features and listed them in my post.eg, think about specific features of XP professional you have used/missed on your old machine over 8 years, i imagine it will be very short
I take that this is not directed towards me and rather to the OP. But personally I never used a Home version. I missed the access control the most and the Remote Desktop. With a hack you can have more than one concurrent remote connections...
And I'm not planning to buy Windows 7 as I'm quite happy with Ubuntu.
I only use XP in a VM for a very few programs for which there are no equivalent Linux programs and for testing websites with IE... 0
