Reassessed funding - is it possible?

My son is ready to go to university in October. He has just the basic student loan and maintenance loan.
Since he has accepted his place and put his student funding in place, my partner and I have separated.
We are still in the same home (the sofa is NOT the most comfortable place to sleep!) however evrything is separate, we are not living as a family in any way other than two adults in a house where their children reside.
I have registered for another house with rental agencies, but to be honest, they are all so expensive, I don't know how long it will be before I can afford to move out, or find somewhere that is affordable.
The ex won't move, as he claims this is 'his house', and with a joint tenancy, I can't physically kick him out.
My question - as the funding for my son (my ex is not his biological father) will now not be supported by my ex in terms of us sending him money each month, can I ask for a reassessment of his funding through SLC as a single parent.
