....MOST DIESEL ENGINES FITTED IN VAUXHALLS ARE RENAULT......2.2 PETROL LUMPS WERE FIAT, NEARLY ALL MANUFACTURERS ARE IN EACH OTHERS POCKETS.......CLASSIC EXAMPLE IS THE POSH SNOB AND HIS JAGUAR X/S TYPE.......OH LOOK ITS AN OVER PRICED MONDEO AND IF ITS A DIESEL ITS GOT A TRANSIT ENGINE IN THE FRONT:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:
No, just no- stop there and reverse.
After GMs failed takeover of Fiat, they retained joint development with Fiat of their engines. As such the 1.3, 1.9 and 2.0 diesels are Fiat derived JTD engines. The Vauxhall Insignia, Corsa, Astra and Zafira all use such engines as do Suzuki and Saab it seems- Check here-http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/JTD_engine
The Vivaro van is shared with Renault and Nissan. Part sharing is common practice- Skodas are old VW (just as well!) and Volvos are Fords and Ferrari is Fiat. Pity GM weren't in Fiat's pockets enough- apart from paying them after breaking the take-over they had a financial disaster as Fiat are now making good money after years of so so results!
This however fails to help the OP, who needs to harass everyone possible in the nicest way to get his vehicle fixed or replaced.0 -
The old 2.0 DTi and 2.2 DTi are not Fiat lumps, GM engines as far as I know.0

Not so old VW now - most use current tech0 -
caps lock off!!!!!
the 1.9cdti (the most common in zaffies, vectra c's and astra h's)diesel engines that are in vauxhalls are RENAULT.....how do i know????? worked for vauxhall all my life saw them comming off the production line whilst on several courses, and you can only get bits for them from either vauxhall or renault dealer
rant over lol.....either way the OP would be well advised to stay away from either citroen, fiat or peugeot diesel 7 seaters due to cam belts snapping way way before there due time of 10 years or 96000 miles, they tend to be cheaper with all the goodies but IMHO i would pass on these ones...best to stick to vx,ford,vw variants personally:)0 -
Ok, mate, whatever, but you are wrong they are the Fiat. Though the Vauxhall/Opel vans have the same engines as the Renault/Nissan vans and are Renault engines.
Just a bit of extra info' that I have found after using Google, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/JTD_engine. Please feel free to assimilate the information in the linked pag and point out which Renault this engine is fitted to.
The fitters at work have changed loads of these engines as they have a habit of blowing up, they all say the are Fiat, with the main problem being the DPF, and associated gubbins fitted to the top spec CDTi Astras and all CDTi Zafiras.
As an aside, what car, exactly, has a cambelt change interval of 10 years and 96k miles, are you sure you aren't mixing up your commercials vehicles and normal cars.
Just to reiterate my point, if you went for your course at Luton then you would have seen Renault engines being fitted to some vans, in fact some Renault vans are built at Luton, the Trafic I think and also the Nissan Primastar.
I have driven Ambulances that where badged up as Opel Movanos, Vauxhall Movanos, Renault Masters and one that was imported from Eire and had a Nissan badge, they all drove the same, and the interior was identical on all of them, except the seats, even the steering wheel weas the same, just different badges.0 -

Vauxhalls old 1.7TD Isuzu (1686cc) powerplant in my opinion is the finest "old school" diesel engine ever made in my opinion, even better than PSA's famous old XUD.
I took one to over 300k, and it purred.... So smooth, smother than any modern diesel engine, and over 50mpg out a Cavalier to boot, wasn't that slow either.
Don't make 'em like that anymore.
Regards,
Andy
The only problem with that engine was the valves causing loss of compression, so making them a pig to start from cold.
They could also run well on veggy, though I did quite like the ex RAF Attra that I had that had the GM engine in it, didn't feel as nippy as the Isuzu, but I liked the way it performed.
I has Cavalier for a few months when I was a courier/minicabber, 20k in three months, and an easy 45mpg when hammered.
I wish all cars were as strong as the last model Carlton and last of the Cavaliers.0 -

point duly noted!!! any how 2.2 diesel citroens(c5,c8's)/peugot 806/807) and fiat ulleysese are cambelt renewal at either 96000 miles or 10 years whichever is sooner, ford focus is at 100000miles or 10 years petrol or diesel and fords new wet belt will be renewal at 200000 miles (providing dayco can sort out teflon coating of belt)
As you may well know most manufacturers have now reduced there cambelt changes to 4 yrs due to roller/tensioner failure not specifically the belt snapping.....i personally would change a belt and roller kit straight away if i bought a second hand car even if it was done 1000 miles ago
Many thanks im off to another thread :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:0 -
Whomever mentioned the Mondeo mk 3 forgot to mention the rear sub-frame - a MAJOR let down!!
Why would you even want a Doblo????Karma - the consequences of ones acts."It's OK to falter otherwise how will you know what success feels like?"1 debt v 100 days £20000 -
My car has huge mileage and the rear subframe bushes are fine, when they need replacing then I will fit poly bushes, job done permanently.0

Good, we had a mk 3 Mondeo and there was a trerrible 'rumbling' from the rear, the dealer fixed it but didn't get the wheels aligned so the tyres wore down on the insides really quickly whilst the outside looked like new.
Just for info - this was a TDCI and even though the BHP was less than my 2L Passatt - it was much more 'pokey' and I miss the Mondeo and have told DH that I wouldn't have another PassatKarma - the consequences of ones acts."It's OK to falter otherwise how will you know what success feels like?"1 debt v 100 days £20000
