Moving from rented to owned property - Insurance

Hi,

I'm in the process of purchasing a property at the moment, so assuming it all goes through, will need buildings and contents insurance. I'm currently in rented accommodation at the moment and my contents only insurance is due for renewal in a couple of weeks, so I will need contents insurance for the (hopefully) 1-2 months left in my rented place.

What do people do in this situation?

My current insurer doesn't offer any refund after 14 days if I cancel - Is it possible to get temporary insurance? I could transfer the insurance to the new property but the best deal on my current place may not be the best for my potential new place...

Also, I have over 5 years NCD - how can I ensure I don't lose this?

Any advice\experience appreciated

Thanks

Why don't you simply buy your contents and buildings insurance seperately?
  • I would either renew your existing policy or take out a new contents policy. Most contents policies can be transfered to a new property. When you ready to move into your new property you can then ask for a quote to add the buildings on. Alternatively you could take out a seperate buildings policy with another company.
