Weekend in London 24-26th September

Options
I was hoping some of you may be able to help me. I was hoping to treat the mega-stressed Mr Moromir to a weekend away, somewhere between 24-26th September (it doesn't have to be two nights). I'd rather do one night and have a plusher hotel than spread us thin over two nights.

I've read through all the forums and I'm actually getting a bit overwhelmed by all the information out there!

I'm leaning towards London as we're only 40 minutes or so away by train.

I would like to go and see a show but I don't think Mr Moromir is particularly into 'showtunes', I love Wicked and think he'd enjoy the story but I've seen it a lot and there don't seem to be any ticket discounts to be had, so I'm looking at the possibility of We Will Rock You, I think he might enjoy that. Has anyone seen it? Is it any good? If not, any recommendations?

Are the dinner and ticket deals worth it? I haven't heard of a lot of the broker sites although obviously I can google reviews on the restaurants.

Thought I might take him for a walk down by the river after the show.

Are there any London markets that are particularly recommended for the Saturday or Sunday morning? Any good cafes for pastries and coffee?

I'm going to try and find out if he's ever been on the Eye and get him tickets for that if not.

Any London hotels you would personally recommend? If we stayed one night I could probably swallow up to £180 on the hotel, although if anyone knows of any hidden gems please let me know!

I thought I might also take him to some of the big food halls as they're usually quite enjoyable.

Does anyone know of anything exciting happening in London that weekend?

Dont forget if you are going by train, google 241 deals, London Eye is one of the 2 for 1 deals I believe. Dont forget to go into the 4D show before you go onto the eye, Its free so you can in fact go on before and after if you like, its amazing.
make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.

Hmm thanks for that but I've looked on the website and the eye isn't listed as a 2 for 1 unfortunately! I don't mind paying for that though as I've been on it before and its amazing.

We Will Rock You is just brilliant if you like Queen music! I've seen it three times. :D

Another of my favourites which is completely different is 'The Woman in Black'. This is theatre rather than a show if you know what I mean. It's a gothic ghost story and it is more frightening than any horror movie you'll have seen. Incredibly atmospheric and psychologically scary, with some bits that'll make you jump (it's not gory or anything). A good one to cuddle up to your man during. :) Recommended it to lots of people who didn't believe theatre could be scary till they went to see it.

Avenue Q is also good - *very* funny and not a kids' show despite appearances.

You can get hotel and theatre deals which can be good. We had a night in The Mayfair hotel using one of these; frequented by C-list celebs but we didn't manage to see anyone. :( We have a habit of going to the theatre with soap stars though. Natalie Cassidy and Wendy Richards were at The Woman in Black, a few seats along from us. And the guy who plays Kevin Webster was at another show we saw with his family.

I use discounttheatre for tickets and did our hotel and show package with them. If you search on here for We Will Rock You on the 25th, you get several room and show packages from £150-300 including the theatre tickets:

The Mayfair is still on there. :) We also had dinner in their restaurant before the show. They had a set menu which was something like three courses for £20 which was a bit of a bargain for some high-end food.

You can try stretching your money a bit by taking advantage of the ICG (Holiday Inn etc) '2 nights for the price of one' offer -

    http://www.ichotelsgroup.com/h/d/6c/1/en/c/1/content/dec/teaser/6c/1/en/lp/emea/twofor.html?rateCode=IDEX1&cm_mmc=DCE-_-PCES070609-_-EMEN-_-UKLEISURE

Put in the two nights you're interested in and try 'London' as the location to bring up a list of hotels - the prices shown will automatically reflect the offer if available at that hotel.

It depends what sort of thing you're after. I'd certainly recommend Borough Market (Saturdays) and Camden Market (Saturdays & Sundays I think?). Spitalfields (Sundays) and Brick Lane (Sundays) are close to each other and are also good.

My perfect start to a Saturday morning in London is a cooked breakfast at Roast in Borough Market. It's pricey but worth it! http://www.roast-restaurant.com/ Followed by a good mooch around borough market, if you've got room for more food after breakfast you can enjoy all the free samples! http://www.boroughmarket.org.uk/

Hotel wise, I always go for a top-secret from lastminute.com providing it's relatively central (check by looking for the nearest tube stop), and it's cheaper than a Premier Inn in London. We got a good deal recently on the Earls Court Premier Inn for £49 a night - giving us more cash to splash on other things! I've given up on travelodges unfortunately after too many nights in grubby rooms with unconcerned staff.

A nice Sunday morning activity is to go to the V&A museum, it's a bit more grown up that the Science and Natural History museums - and still free to get in so you can go for an hour or so without feeling like you've got to spend the whole day there to get your money's worth!

Enjoy, London weekends are my favourite.
