Growing your own veg

Hi, I just wondered if anyone has any tips for growing your own veg? We're moving at the end of the month and will hopefully be in our new house for at least a year (!) so I would really like to dedicate a part of the garden to growing our own veg. Problem is I don't know where to start! We have two young boys who love their veg and eat it by the truck load so hopefully this will save us a few pennies!!!
