Statutory Sick Pay

Hi , can someone clarify this for me,

SSP lasts for 26 weeks , does the 26 weeks star after any Contractual sick pay has been paid or is it just from the first day of sickness?
Also , can an emplyer pay SSP when contractual sick pay is being paid ?

Thanks

It starts from the first day of sickness. The SSP amount will be part of your OSP.

In most cases the 26 weeks starts from the third qualifying day of the sickness, the first three days are waiting days and are not included in the 26 weeks. The only exception is if in the eight weeks prior to this sickness period you have been off sick and in that period of sickness some or all of the waiting days have already been served, in this case then thoses waiting days would not apply to this sickness period. If this was the case then the two periods of sickness would be added together to count the 26 weeks. This would apply to all periods of sickness which were seperated by eight weeks or less.

Provided that the company sick pay for any day is equal to or greater than the SSP that is due for that same day then the company sick pay is considered as full payment of the SSP due.

26 weeks should read 28 weeks well spoted healy

SSP is paid for a maximum for 28 weeks not 26 weeks.
