I bought a new battery for my laptop from Super-Battery. The website gives no indication where they are based which is good indication that it is not in the UK. They are actually based in China but the battery was posted to me from Hong Kong.

The website states, "We guarantee every transaction Will be 100% safe. This may not mean safe for you computer as the battery comes with a disc with a driver that you must use to flash a patch to the BIOS. The instuctions with the battery also state that if this causes damage to your computer then they are NOT liable.

I have since been advised that flashing the BIOS a is very dangerous procedure and can destroy your motherboard. rending you laptop useless so have sent the battery back to China for a refund. Recorded delivery does not exist in China so I cannot guarantee they will get it.

Their website says nothing about needing to load a disc to make the battery work or the potential danger to your computer.

Their batteries are competitively priced however I have alreadly lost £9 on postage and packing and will have to wait and see if I get my refund via Paypal.

The only plus side is that they do reply to your emails within 24 hours.

  • I dont mean to be rude but what did you expect? Any aftermarket battery will be a risk. Even the manufacturers dont always get it right.

Buy the correct OEM spec one, you pay extra but its for a good reason.....

  • Sony now charge £180 for a new battery which is a bit steep. Especially when they only last about 2 years. I guess it may be possible to get the genuine ones a bit cheaper elsewhere.

I need a new 6 cell VGP-BPS9/B battery, any ideas?

That is steep... I dont blame you for trying. I just dont get people who feel the need to skimp on a £50 battery. Obviously £180 is something most will want to skimp on.....

Maybe look for a broken model of your laptop on ebay? It may be cheaper and you will have other spares. Or look for a non OEM battery but from a decent brand AND retailer.

  • So you bought a cheapo charger from China to save a few quid. I do agree £180 for a laptop charger sounds expensive but I suspect that it wont burn your house down whilst your family are sleeping.
