hi, my other half has been asked to provide 3 months banks statment s to his employer under the new fsa rules, however, i was made redudundant last year and suffered from depression and found online gambling, i havent put us into debt and only used my money i have left (none now) and im so not looking for sympathy, funnily enough at the end of last month i joined gamcare and put gamblock on my computor and self excluded from every site i had joined so was taking my life bak and stopping.

my worry is , not only that he will find out (thats my prob and my own fault) but that his employer will question the bank statements and what we do with the money? i dont have any large amounts going in or out so there is no sign of money fraud or anything, i usually shred all the statements so i have a bit of breathing space while i get them, this months of course wont show any gambling because i beelive i have turned a corner.....all of this is of my own making i know so i dont need any repremands from anyone, just to ask should i just send last months statement alongside this months anyway? or hope for the best they will wait for statements to get to 3 months?

the amount last month gambling btw was between £200 - £300 lost, i know i know but i am now seeing sense at last and getting help please dont be unkind i have beaten myself up enough for the whole world.....:o(

Glad to hear you are getting your problems sorted but the fact that you want to keep this hidden from your husband rings alarm bells. In my opinion you should tell him. you can explain that you have taken all the necessary steps to stop and that you need his support, because as long as you keep this a secret there is chance you could relapse. if he knows then he will keep an eye on you which will help.

With regards to the statements, i can understand why you don't want the employer to see them but if it is an FSA regulation then you may have no get out. As long as there is nothing dodgy and you are not seriously in debt then they should have no issue with what is on there. By all mean s put it off as long as you can but in the end these things come out. if you have discussed it with your husband then he will at least be able to decide for himself if it will affect his job.

i havent discussed it with him yet he doesnt do stress or stuff tuts , he is happy as long as bills are paid , i was wondering if i t would be ok for him to put in with the papers that if there is any queries about finances please contact my wife as she deals with finances, he will just worry so much else and hes not all that well himself.....oh god i feel its such a mess because of my own stupidity

just to let u know by the way he will be able to see im not doing anything untoward i have made a file up now for him to keep future bank statements, i said he needs to know in case anything happens to me wahts going in and out, i am in my sixties so its sensible anyway as he has no idea where the money goes and what bills there are only because he doesnt want to tho but hes said thats a good idea anyway.
  • What FSA regulation states you have to show your bank statements to your employer, and for what reason??

Your suggestion is probably going to be more embarrassing to him than the indiscretions on the statements.

It sounds like you have separate accounts? If so clarify if he needs all the statements for the household or just his own.

I personally would tell him rather than trying to hide it in any way. I hope you find a suitable solution.

surely any payments in/out will be named????

wouldn't they just be looking for strange payments, that could have been triggered whch indicate that there is mony coming from strange sources, IE a techie paying themselves from the banks systems?????

Gambling was leagal last time i checked, and if you weren't spending money you didn't ave then not TOO much of an issue surely? (not trying to dismiss your problem, but meaning from the banks POV)

    Stashbuster - 2014 98/100 - 2015 175/200 - 2016 501 / 500 2017 - 200 / 500 2018 3 / 500

To see if he is a serial embezzler? Frankly you would the the banks would check THEIR accounts more closely

Sorry not helpful to the OP , but some things annoy me

actually you are right gambling is legal and we dont have strange sources of money going in, a few deposits ie. rent money from a room we let etc all money can be proved where it came from at source, we are not in serious debt or owt but i know we will be if i dont stop of course and i will ihave put everythiing in place to make it almost impossible to do it online.

thank you all so much for your time its helped me clear my own mind up xx
