Hyundai problem

Hi, I hope someone can help me.

I have a Hyundai Accent R reg and the "door open" warning light has come up on the dashboard but no doors are open. A friend who tinkers with cars has had a look and can't get it to turn off. He thought he could take a fuse out but it doesn't work and the light still stays on.

When I have the headlights on the ding ding noise is driving me mad and I am worried that it is draining the battery power.

Does anyone know what I can do to get the light to turn off please?

switch stuck in the door hinge/boot maybe, try pushing in and out a few times. does the interior light come on/go off when you open/close all the doors.

A ding ding will use hardly any battery power, especially when the engine is running.

When the warning light is on the dashboard the interior light is on and I have had to switch it to off as it doesn't go off when I shut the doors so I presume that it is linked to the door open warning light.

I will try to find the switch in the door/boot and push it in and out.

Thanks for coming back to me.

It shouldn't take you long, they are not exactly hard to find.

Ask him to put the fuse back, he obviously didn't know what the fuse was for and it could well be for your ABS, power steering or Airbag warning lamp.
It's pretty obvious that it's a problem with the door open detection, either a switch or perhaps a wire that's fractured where the door hinge's (copper work hardening).

Thanks Strider, he has put the fuse back - he just took it out to see if the light would go off but it didn't.

I have looked at the door switch and pushed it in and out and the light on the dashboard has now gone out.

Hopefully if it goes on again I will be able to sort it by pushing the switch again, but I do agree that there is probably a fault with the door opening detection. No doubt I will end up taking it to a garage.

Thanks again for everyone's help - it is much appreciated.

An auto electician might be a better idea. Probably cheaper on an old car to disable the switch than worry about renewing it.

The switch contacts may have been just a bit dirty, that's all.
