Fun (?) one for the girls

I have noticed over the years that when its coming up to totm I do very strange things:oI don't mean the usual hormonal annoyances but I think certain outfits that I wouldn't normally wear look good, I've had odd haircuts and even changed my hair colour and tried out new make up looks that are just plain wrong:eek:Now I pretty much have this under control after years of practise, I don't allow myself to go clothes shopping and so on when I know that time is approaching but this month things have got the better of me:rotfl:I have scrubbed off every last bit of fake tan and yesterday I was convinced I wanted a new paler than pale look, now this morning I can see that I look like I need a blood transfusion but yesterday I was happy, sounds petty? I agree, so can you make me feel like I'm not the only one who makes odd beauty or fashion decisions when the monthly hormones kick in - any funny stories?

I might delete this post later as another bad totm decision:rotfl:

  • You've made me smile! I do that too... Well the odd outfits thing... Red fish nets, denim skirt and purple silk top last weekend- there's no excuse:rotfl:
If you aim for the moon if you miss at least you will land among the stars!
  • I'm with you on the not shopping when I have pms - I have some real disasters in my wardrobe to prove it! Also I find my skin gets very dry and spotty around that time, so I have been known to panic and spend far too much on expensive face cream. :o

I once went and had my hair cut to about half an inch all over, during a particularly aggressive bout of pms. It had curled the wrong way that morning, so I decided to teach it a lesson !! It all seemed very reasonable to me at the time.....

until I woke up the following morning and realised I looked the most stupid ever. :o It took about 2 months to grow back to a reasonable length again as well.

So now I stay indoors and well away from shops and hairdressers during that time of the month!

This thread strikes a chord with me, I once bought a metallic blue puffa jacket when my TOTM was due. I also can't drive very well when I am due and my spatial awareness is appalling but goes back to normal after TOTM.
If you always do what you have always done, you will always get what you always got!
  • OMG, I'm another one that can't drive then. Well, I can drive, I have no problems with roads etc but I really can't park when TOTM is due. My spatial awareness is shot then, and I know it's not just cos I'm female:p as I have no problems with reverse parking etc the rest of the month.
I crave junk then too, lots of chocolate, sweeties and whatever is easy to eat and in the cupboards!! I don't really have much bother with shopping though, as I don't really enjoy shopping for clothes when I'm all bloated so steer clear of the shops then (maybe I've evolved this as a response to carp clothing choices earlier in my life?).

    It's only a game

  • I have the chocolate problem or really anyfood at my TOTM. I can eat for england, i get so hungry and im small anyway thankgod. I cry and get so low for no reason as well over stupid things. I think im fat because im bloated and although people say you look no different i feel different. My boobs go huge which is a plus side sometimes, unless your trying to get into the just about fits outfit you want to wear then ive got no hope as the buttons just pop off lol so then i cry because although i have other things to wear i have to pick that one just because!! No reasoning to it. Every month i know im going to be like this but as hard as i try i cant do anything to avoid how i feel, what i eat and what know just wont damn fit.

I know when its totm when my memory starts failing, get tongue tied, cant sleep wel, and start doing silly things..missing keys/phone etc, this month I put wrong invoices in envelopes...driving feels wrong, crave choc junk food and do lots of cleaning/binning stuff also find situations are getting too difficult to handle but in hindsight is a doddle. All over & done with until next time

Wow- makes me feel lucky and slightly less embarrassed- I get really, really bad period pains, as in cannot walk upright and have to stop at several points to crouch into a ball type pain. I take pain killers but they don't work so well.

I try to change around what I do in a day but theres only so much I can do, so I seem to, in my unwittingly self orientated moments, feel the pain and let everyone around me know about it. I have been on the bus, sat next to my bag (pain too bad to have ANYTHING touching me) then you get one of those....arrogant **** who see every other seat on the bus is empty and decide no, because your bag is on the seat, they want to sit next to you. I roared at the women who asked me to "move your bag, now please I want to sit!" "I AM ON MY F****** PEROID! LEAVE ME ALONE!" Got my bag its seat but the few people who were right the other end (bendy bus) were also fully up to date. Similar things happen every month.

I don't know if its the hormones as much as the pain though, just the idea of someone touching my skin sends my hair on end when I'm at my TOTM so it really doesn't take much to send me over the edge!
  • Several people have mentioned spatial awareness problems with PMS, well does anyone else get size awareness problems with your body and clothes? I mentally increase by about 3 dress sizes when I look in a mirror at that time, and am convined that I have overnight become a hippopotamous.

Two months ago I bought a size 14 wool coat from Ebay (can't resist a bargain, nobody else bid). Anyway it arrived when I was in the depths of pms, and I tried it on and looked and felt absoulutely HUGE! I threw it back in the wrappings and put it in a corner to give to one of my (rather larger) friends.

Two weeks late my OH said 'what's this'? and picked up the package. I told him that it was a coat I'd bought but it must be mis-sized as I was convinced that it was a size 20 or 22 from the way I looked in it, so I was going to give it to my (larger) friend. He unpacked the coat and said 'Don't be ridiculous, that will never fill Ellie, why on earth do you think it's so big?' He persuaded me to try it on again, and it looks fab and fits perfectly - it is a proper size 14 after all......

    :o

Yet another reason why it's a very bad idea for me to go shopping at that TOTM!

    :D
