Does anyone know of a website/mail order company in the UK that sells cheap motorbike crash helmets. I am in Aus so need someone that ships internationally.

A decent Shoei over here is $800!

You could try ebay uk, plenty on there, some offering ww shipping (which will be expensive to Aus)

I assume you have tried Ebay Aus?

Check that the UK helmets meet the local Aussie safety regulations and are marked as such. I have come a cropper simply because the relevant national standards compliance sticker was missing.
  • You probably won't save anything once you have done the currency conversion and paid shipping. The shipping is the big killer. Why do you need a shoei there are plenty of other helmets on the market that cost a lot less with out having to pay a premium price for a name.
Nothing to see here, move along.

AU$800 is about £475 at today's exchange rate.

I think you'll find that helmets are a lot more expensive in the UK than they were before you emigrated (poor £ to euro, and euro to Yen exchange rates mean that Jap helmets have gone up considerably)

A Shoei X-Spirit is £480, the MultiTec is £420 (not including shipping) from Helmet City.

TBH, I don't think you are going to save much.

The helmet is for a mate of mine. Ebay is a good idea.

I save a fortune buying bicycle gear in the UK rather than in Aus due to the strength of the Aussie relative to the quid. The very nice people that ship it don't even charge me as long as I spend $60 with them and I save the VAT.

    Ah yes, forgot the VAT.

Try George White Superstore then. He does end-of range and discontinued models cheap. He's got some Shoei XR1000 for £249 (or £199 for plain grey) which might suit if your mate's not after a specific colour or design
