Aaaarrrgggghhh French Air Traffic Strike - flight cancelled!!!!

Not looking for advice, just sympathy :(

Due to fly out to Spain tomorrow but flight cancelled :(

Couldn't get rebooked till Saturday :(

Need to come back on original day due to OH work so only Sat to Weds hol :(

At least Ryanair were decisive - would have been much worse if we had turned up at airport & had a 6 hour delay then a cancellation. And rebooking was v straightforward :)

And I will book a short trip with spare days leave :)

Just stay out of my way tomorrow :(

Most airlines operated flights to Spain today, yes there were delays of a few hours but Thomson, Thomas Cook, bmibaby, Monarch, Jet2 among others managed to get their passengers where they wanted to go today.

I am surprised you think that Ryanair's decisive action was a positive. All they did is blanket cancel so they didn't have to deal with knock on delays. I would rather have an airline that could get me there a few hours late than cancel at the first sign of trouble meaning I lose a few days of my holiday.

I am surprised that Ryanair can claim the cancellation is due to French ATC action when so many airlines were able to operate?

This has caused some major headaches at LHR today. I was out doing an aircraft turnaround tonight and as we came on stand at 19:05 a Spanish Vueling aircraft nextdoor closed it's doors and took off the jetbridge. At 21:45 when my aircraft pushed back, it was still sat there with everyone on board waiting for an ATC slot. Lucky my aircraft wasn't heading into French airspace or i'd probably still be at work.

Well, I too would sooner have a few hour delay, but at least we knew what was happening. Ryanair did operate flights to Spain yesterday - annoyingly one we almost booked went! And as the day went on I saaw other flights being cancelled - the 22.20 (?) Easyjet to Alicante was cancelled - would not have been happy having that one cancelled at the last minute!

In all my years of flying budget airlines I have never had a flight cancelled before, or more than a few hours delay so guess I have got off lightly. Managed to get out to Spain and back either side of the ash cloud, so must have been payback time :(
