1 day car insurance cover for under 21 year old

Hi all,

Was wondering if anyone could help me - I want to insure my sister to drive my car for one day (she's doing me a favour and driving me on my wedding day!), but she's 20 and I can't seem to find an insurer who do 1 day cover for under 21 year olds!

Has anyone found a company who do this, or am I better just to call my insurer and ask for her to be added for a day? Just aware that this will had a massive admin fee as well!

Also, does anyone know where in the policy it tells you if you can drive other cars than the one you take the policy out for? I can't find it anywhere in my policy, but I know I was told when I took my insurance out that despite having comprehensive insurance, I can't drive any other cars because of my age. I was wondering if my sister has the same stipulation, and where she might be able to find it in the insurance?

Thanks for your help!

Not sure if this will help but I was trying to add my (older) sister to my insurance for a week - turned out it was cheaper to add her for the rest of the insurance year (8 months) than just a week

  • Check your sisters insurance policy and see if it too stipulates that she is only able to drive the car for which she is insured. would imagine at 20 it probably is.

Failing that, hire a chauffeur. It will certainly be cheaper than trying to insure a 20year old for 1 day. Insurance companies are poo.
  • there is one way round this if it's still going.if you get your sister to do a hpi check on your car, costs £19.99 then she would qualify for 7 days free comprihensive insurance by getting a quote through aviva..my 18 year old son did this about 3months ago on a lupo that he was buying.best to ring hpi first to make sure this offer is still valid before spending the cash..hope this helps.ck
  • The age and length of driving might not be in her favour and I know your car has to be something like no more than 5 years old but why dont you hire the car to her via WhipCar??
