If you have no fixed date in mind yet, you might be best to consider going November insted as then you can see if you can get one of the Travelodge £9 rooms in this Thursdays sale for date Nov-Jan. Although the London rooms are usually limited and snapped up fairly fast. Somewhere like Covent Garden is handy for shopping and theatres and waterloo and Southwark handy for attractions such as the Eye, House of Parliament, Embankment etc. Check on sites like LastMinute.com to see prices for Dirty Dancing tickets. I am not very good with trains outside of London, but there are a lot of people on here who have a lot of knowledge on train fares, deal etc, if you post dates and where you are coming from.

You might also consider the London Hoxton Hotel £1 sale rooms, with the sale going online at noon this Thursday. Rooms for this seem to be snapped up within minutes of going live, so you would need to be on line before noon and be very quick on entering details. Dates Sept to Jan
