Mazda MX5 tyre pressure

Can anyone advise on what the best tyre pressure is for the Mazda MX5?

The handbook states 26 psi (front & rear), but this seems a bit low to me.

You sure that wasn't 2.06 bar and you misread?

Anyway, the tyre pressures will be on a sticker somewhere on the drivers door jamb, as well as in the owners handbook.

    Yes 26psi is correct.

Some run them at 24psi for a bit more sidewall flex, and increased grip.

It sounds low, but due to the nature of the MX-5 this is correct. Overinflate the tyres more than this and it'll be like driving on glass.

  • I'd guess a 50/50 weight distribution on a light car, 26psi all round sounds ok.

My ancient Honda Civic takes 26 all round, always thought it seemed very low. 28 seems fine.

Lighter cars run lower pressure's else it'll feel like its on roller skates.....
My kitcar weights around 600kg and runs 18 PSI front and rear!!

  • yep we put 26psi in ours too.

It gets really skittish on higher pressures.

BMW Z4 is 50:50 weight distribution and my tyre pressures were 33psi front and 36psi rear.
My Z4 was 30% heavier than the MX5 though!!

Ahh, I miss my 2.5 Z4 :(. But becoming a dad I had no choice but to get rid of it! I'd love the newer Z4 though, looks beautiful.
