    zain,

this sounds like a similar problem i had not long ago, if the operating system can not be found it is because it has either become corrupted or that a file/files have been deleted.

i believe this can be fixed sometimes if an engineer or techie as a boot disk for the operating system, but i was told it is very rare and unfortunately did not work in my case, the other possibility and usually the case is a new hard drive and reinstallation of windows is needed.

Normally if one of the os files is corrupt, boot from a floppy and then do: sys c: This will replace all the os files.

Changing the boot sequence will not make any difference to booting on the hard drive. The idea was to boot from a floppy disk. This should leave you at an A:> prompt. You can then have a look at your hard disk using dir c: chkdsk c: and so on. Once you can boot from the floppy disk then it should be fairly easy to see what is happening on the hard disk.

It simply will not boot from the floppy. I can hear it working and trying to, but the message ends up as ' Operating System cannot be found'. I have tried using the CD too but that makes no difference.

I am getting very frustrated and am beginnning to think it is something more serious

I am willing to try anything with this computer. If i can't resolve the problem soon i think i will dump the machine in a skip!

    Thanks in advance

I had the same on my company laptop. The IT dept took out the removable DVD/CDfloppy disc drive and it started up and so they just replaced it, but I was able to use the laptop without it in.
