Non system disk error

zain,
this sounds like a similar problem i had not long ago, if the operating system can not be found it is because it has either become corrupted or that a file/files have been deleted.
i believe this can be fixed sometimes if an engineer or techie as a boot disk for the operating system, but i was told it is very rare and unfortunately did not work in my case, the other possibility and usually the case is a new hard drive and reinstallation of windows is needed.Nobody can make you feel inferior, without your permission

Normally if one of the os files is corrupt, boot from a floppy and then do: sys c: This will replace all the os files.

Changing the boot sequence will not make any difference to booting on the hard drive. The idea was to boot from a floppy disk. This should leave you at an A:> prompt. You can then have a look at your hard disk using dir c: chkdsk c: and so on. Once you can boot from the floppy disk then it should be fairly easy to see what is happening on the hard disk.0 -

It simply will not boot from the floppy. I can hear it working and trying to, but the message ends up as ' Operating System cannot be found'. I have tried using the CD too but that makes no difference.
I am getting very frustrated and am beginnning to think it is something more serious
I am willing to try anything with this computer. If i can't resolve the problem soon i think i will dump the machine in a skip!
Thanks in advance0 -
I had the same on my company laptop. The IT dept took out the removable DVD/CDfloppy disc drive and it started up and so they just replaced it, but I was able to use the laptop without it in.0
