Halifax Reward Account Credit Check?

Does anyone know if Halifax does a credit check for their reward account - I won't be applying for any credit on it.

They score it internally first, based on your application form and what they know (or don't know) about you.

If you fail the internal credit score, they don't carry out a credit search.

If you pass the internal credit score, they will carry out a search and leave a footprint on your credit file.

Then they'll decide if you can have the account or not.

    The process is automated.

Thanks - I have no internal score with them so assume I'd be credit checked.

As I'm not applying for credit, it doesn't need to be perfect does it? There isn't anything bad on there, I just have quite a few credit accounts - especially for my income.

As the account has an overdraft facility this is classes as a form of credit.

The account has an optional overdraft facility, which I declined, so it wouldn't be a form of credit.

Anyway, I have the account now - not sure if I was credit checked yet but theres no reason to think opinions4u was wrong.

Have you taken a cheque book or debit card? Both of these will give you the ability to overdraw the account (should you choose to abuse them).

It is not optional so to speak, you are provided with a guaranteed overdraft and the limit is dependant on how much money goes through the account each month.

Even if you say no to an overdraft at signup you can just log on and press a couple of buttons and you have an overdraft, no credit check nothing!

Definitely no credit check? That's good to know - thanks! I don't suppose they tell you this limit before you request one do they?

I didn't take a cheque book but I didn't consider that about the debit card - good point.

You are credit checked but only when you apply for the account, once the account is open it is an internal check that decides what you get by the way you manage the account and what goes through it.

They used to tell you the limit now they don't, but just enter say 5000 in the box and a message will come up saying you cannot have an overdraft above your guaranteed limit of £xxx.xxx

Just go back and enter the guranteed limit.
  • you will be credit checked. opened this account myself recently and i was checked. takes about a month to appear

you're routinely credit checked for ALL current accounts, have been for years
