Are you living by yourself? no one receives Carers Allowance for you? And you receive High/Middle rate Care component DLA?

You will *normally* be entitled to the severe disability premium if ALL of the following applies:
1) you get, or should get, income-related ESA
2) you are a single claimant (i.e. no partner living with you);
3) you get the care component of DLA at either the middle or higher rate;
4) no-one aged 18+ lives with you*;
5) no one gets Carer's Allowance for looking after you.
*If you live with a joint tenant, this is a bit trickier. If you're in a house of multiple occupation, the other tenants don't count as joint tenants.
Hope the above helps.0 -
Thanks for your replies, I do get income related esa. I get higher care. No one gets carers allowance for me however i live with a joint tenant, she is a friend but we both pay our own rent and bills so no money is shared. Do you think it is worth applying for as i do live with the joint tenant. Thanks.0

Nothing to lose apart from a bit of time asking. If you are refused the severe disability premium, appeal and get a Tribunal to give it the once over. Yes, it takes time and a bit of effort, but at least you can be more certain the DWP has got it right if a Tribunal goes down the same path. Feel free to copy the content of my earlier post.0
