any advice please for trip to Tunisia

Hi all

was wondering if anyone could give me some advice. Me and OH are going away together for the first time in 11 years we are very excited. I booked a holiday from thomas cook, To tunisia, we are staying at the Vime Lido hotel in naebul, an arrive at 22.20 at tunis airport i see from my itinary that we have no shuttle bus to the hotel. I wondered if anyone knew if any public transport was available from airport to hotel or do i have to get a taxi (have heard is very expensive) also are there any cash points nearby. or should we carry cash, if so how much? also any places we should visit.

Sorry for asking so much but am so nervous now and stressed about the travel from airport to hotel!:A

Nabeul is a fair hike from Tunis airport. It's along the coast north of Hammamet. So I reckon public transport is a non-starter at that time of night.

As your flight isn't due to land until 2220 you're going to be in for a relatively expensive taxi ride, and a very late arrival at your hotel.

    Three suggestions:

    1. Contact the hotel, and see if they can arrange transport (likely to be expensive!).

    2. Stay somewhere in Tunis overnight (Carlton Hotel? - it's central and very good), and then get the train to Hammamet, then Nabeul in the morning after a leisurely hotel breakfast. If you take this option make sure that the taxi driver at the airport turns his meter on. If he refuses, then get another taxi.

    3. Ask for advice on the Tunisia forum on the TripAdvisor website.

As for money. You're very unlikely to be able to get hold of Tunisian Dinar before you arrive. So take sterling cash, and a debit card. I'd imagine (but not certain) even late at night that you'll be able to change money in the airport arrivals hall.

Places to visit. Hammamet isn't too far from Nabeul by train. Further north and things get a bit patchy. Best bet is to ask on the Trip Advisor website.

Hope that's helpful. Enjoy, but don't forget Tunisia is a different culture, dress modestly.

    Never thought of that:o
But if they are the only ones on the flight going to Nabeul (not an obvious choice) it'll be expensive. A night in Tunis would be a better choice).

    www.holidaytaxis.com

shuttle transfer from Tunis - Nabeul (105 mins) £30.00pp return
private taxi transfer (75 mins) £136.00 return

shuttle looks like operating at that time, so i guess it's a regular flight that they meet n greet.

    have a good holiday.

    ...but not in Nabeul!
Most fun way to get there during the day though from Tunis-Carthage Airport is:

    - Catch the 635 public bus (yellow) from outside airport arrivals to Tunis Marine bus station.
    - Metro (tram) to Tunis train station
    - Train to Birbou Regba
    - Branch line train to Nabeul

Might take a while, but it's a good way to start a Tunisian adventure

Alternatively, there are regular daytime direct buses from the airport to Nabeul. Exit arrivals, and the buses are way over to the left.

Try transfers4U, also owned by Thomas Cook, who are very cheap for transfers in Tunisia. Two returns from Tunis to Nabeul on a shuttle bus are £14.

If you read some reviews they say plenty of transfers to nabeul

    Brings back some memories,

We took a 2 week package deal end of season and the hotel was a dump, going to be closed down when we had gone.

Local police nearly arrested the reps for causiing problems and bringing tunisia into disriputre.

Storm caused loads of hospital waste to come up onto the beach.

Even after all that we had a great time, the town was small and everyone very friendly local market and shops were it was fun to haggle , hotel staff tried hard to please and were just as fed up with the tour operator/reps as the guests.

we also took the long tour to the south to see the rest of tunisia which was also great.

You can go to where start wars was filmed.

    Hotel Nabeul Beach
looks like it has been done up (was 18 years ago we went)
