Urgent Help: Abroad but hotel is claiming they have not got my booking

Hello All

Im currently staying in Beijing for 4 nights. I checked into the hotel on Sunday.

Upon checking in on Sunday the reception staff seemed to be taking ages.

They asked for a deposit for 600 CNY (£57). As they speak little English I had little understanding what this was for. Eventualy the lady said it was for "mini-bar"

Now, its just gone midnight and the reception phoned me saying to come down and make a deposit of 900 CNY (£86) ...Saying that the first deposit was not enough.

I've been down to reception confused to exactly what is going on. It appears that the hotel doesn't have my reservation that I booked via expedia.

The reception lady agreed that I could give 300 CNY instead of 900 CNY as another deposit and explained to me that she could not find my reservation on the system and also said she could check it tomorrow when the manager comes in.

I've tried calling expedia but cant get through and its eating up my credit. Will try and ring first thing tomorrow.

Im starting to get worried! Am i being scammed or what?
The hotel I am staying at is a budget large chain hotel

Thanks, Ive just emailed Expedia. I check out the hotel in 36 hours so I hope they reply!

So far the hotel have £86 in cash as a "deposit" of my money!! They wanted £143!...The hotel was £80 for 4 nights on Expedia, which I paid in full when I booked the hotel on the website, however as I mentioned it appears they have no record of this!!
  • You have checked that you are in the correct hotel and your dates are OK, no problems with 8/9/10 and 9/8/10?

If been caught checking into the wrong hotel and the wrong dates.

Hi, ive checked and im in the right hotel and my booking has the right dates!

This is a complete nightmare. The hotel staff speak very little english. The guy rang from Expedia today and he explained that he had tried to call the hotel but that they do not speak English so the hotel could not understand him!

The guy from Expedia called earlier but I wasn't in the hotel. He wanted me to pass my phone to the reception desk. He is calling back shortly as I am now back at the hotel.

Im thining I may just have to pay for the room in cash again upon checkout (I've already paid for it on Expedia) ...and then claim a refund from expedia once I get back home!

At least Expedia are being helpful, i hope you get it sorted out. Make sure they give you a receipt for any money you give them as a 'deposit' so there is a record of what money you have given them.
  • OP, if the hotel did not have a boooking for you how did they let you check in? They must have something there. It could be that they have misplaced the paperwork that confirms they will receive payment from Expedia.
Surely Expedia should be able to fax or email confirmation to the Hotel Accounts Department that you have paid and that Expedia will be settling the account.
