Are EDF pulling a fast one?

I'm a free agent on 30th Sept when EDF's price cap comes to an end. So I look on energy helpline and the best deal for me at the mo is with the newbie company OVO. For a only a few pounds worse off over the year I can change to another EDF tariff so I phone them with the hope of doing this and they say they can't do anything at the moment but they will be writing to me in the next few weeks.

With the information on MSE about iminent price rises, possibly across the board, I'm wondering if EDF are leaving me hanging on because they know in a few weeks the best deals, that are available now, will be gone.

Any advice on how to play this? I could just sign up with OVO but might I regret it if they are not good? Could I still go ahead and change to another tariff with the same company with energy helpline?

Just not sure what to do, it's important because everything is electric and we use c£1800 per year.

Appreciate any sage offerings.

Paul

If you start the process now, you'll not be switched until after 30/9, so you won't have to pay any early termination charges.
Don't switch with a comp site, use a cashback site.

What sort of cashback values are available with Ovo, and from which site please?

Can't seem to find them on quido or topcashback ... but I never was that good using them sites.

This is a risk you have to take with these new/cheap companies

Not usually. You have to usually be a new customer of the supplier to get any cashback, whether from a cashback site or via a comparison site

  • I wouldn't have thought the people on the phone will have any idea what is happening re prices and tariffs, which is probably why they sound so beaten down when price rises are announced.

I'll give you even money that they put you on the standard tariff when it expires, and I won't even take a bet that you won't be on the cheapest tariff because that's a certainty (whether they put you on the standard tariff or not).
