Hmm,
buying a new suzuki swift a great price (£8725 for z3 older model) and got offered £500 for my 2001 skoda fabia px with MOT and £250 with out.

Wbac online are saying £695 or £575 (MOT due in 2 weeks).

Is it worth me taking it to them to show it them, or are they likely to offer me much less?
The outside condition is good, only one small scratch. The seats are pretty filthy, and she runs ok, but makes a heap of noise...not sure anyone would want to buy it on ebay :/

Advice appreciated. Need to decide whether to bother MOTing it tomorrow, or dumping it on wbac...

Webuyanycar.con will give you no more than £350, they are well-known for paying their agents a bonus if they can drop the price by at least 45%.

Forget the trade-in. Go to your local newsagents and look-up the value in Parkers or Glass's guides (no need to buy the guides though).

Just looked on ebay, and the 2001 Fabia tends to go for between £800 - £1200 depending on condition, tax etc.

  • stick it on ebay as it is, it will sell, just be honest about its condition and then nobody will be surprised when they turn up to collect it.

£500 for a car thats MOT is just about to run out is a tad adventurous i would say. if you know it won't need much or anything to pass then stick a full years mot on it and you will get a much better price for it.

  • Thanks for the advice.
Have taken it in for it's MOT. Will just have to see what the verdict is then consider the options.

So the garage have just phoned. It needs a new wishbone brush (quoted £80) and 2 new tires (wire is sticking through). But other than that it's ok.

:/ Dunno what to do now. Fix it and sell it with 12 months MOT. Or flog it as it is with the list of repairs needed (its got 3 weeks MOT left)

    Advice needed!

Ps dealers are selling similar cars for upto 2 grand on ebay! But no private sellers to compare to. Can I expect a grand maybe? If so it's worth sorting out on the chance that someone will buy it. I think???

The ones I found were all private sellers.
£80 is cheap for a new wishbone. As for the tyres, do you have any part-worn tyre dealers in your area?. If not, phone a scrap yard. Most scrappies will flog a wheel with tyre for £25, or a tyre on it's own for a bit less. but will cost you about £5 a wheel to change-over a tyre.

Even if it costs you £200, you will get more than this back anyway. It will be the difference between getting £400 & £800+ for it.

Thanks for the advice. I think I'll get it sorted and see what I can get for it.

if you took it for an MOT and it failed it will not have 3 weeks left on the other MOT

  • Incorrect, if your vehicle fails an MOT at whatever stage whilst it has a current MOT, the current MOT immediately expires, however this is not recorded on the DVLA computer as being a failed car.
