Gas combi v elec combi

We are in a rented property. We approached the landlord about fitting a gas combi boiler to run central heating and water. She has come back asking what we think of elec?

We don't have mains gas so it would have to be tanks. We are a family of 4 in a 3 bed semi cottage. there would be 3 maybe 4 radiators fitted.

We are wondering what the running cost differences would be between gas and elec. The central heating will mainly be used at night and occasionally through the day as we have a woodburner downstairs.

We only have immersion for water and night storage for heating at the moment which costs a fortune!

Does anyone know also how much the gas cylinders are and on average how long they would last based on our usage? I know this would vary.

Any advice would be great!
Thanks x

Depends what you have to pay for 47 kg lpg bottles and electricity in your area.

    An example would be:
    LPG 1 litre = 7.08 KW
    47kg = 91.8 litres = 650 kw
    at £50 / 47kg bottle
    1kw costs £0.077.
    85% efficient boiler costs £0.09 / kw

Put your own cost in the calculation and change the boiler effiiciency if it is a new boiler, but in this example, many people will be able to buy their electricity around that price, and some will be paying less than that.
Either way, both are much more expensive than mains gas.
You need to consider oil or a heat pump to reduce the running costs.

certainly mains gas is substantially cheaper per kwH than electricity and unless botteled is much dearer the gas one I'd expect to have substantially lower running costs... check your sums tho and obv you'd need to weigh the savings against the hassle of buying gas bottles (and dangers of having bottels of gas stacked up around the place)

You don't want an electric boiler.

All the cost of electric and all the disadvantages of a wet system.
e.g. maintenance (probably not an issue if your renting, expect for periods it's not working!), inefficiency, etc.
Could there be a worse solution?

Cost of an electric combi compared with a gas one for starters!

If you can get free wood, solid fuel boiler is the way to go. Don't forget insulation.
