  • Am I allowed to start discussing before it starts? :p

But seriously what a tragic loss of life. :(

At the end of the day it is only money! That might sound daft coming from someone who was in £34k of debt and still £25k in debt but it's taught me that money really isn't what's important in life.

I wonder how many people have killed themselves in the last 5 years because of money! I bet it's a hell of alot!

But in answer to the question; I don't think it's as straight forward as a them or us scenario!

Lending isn't necessarily a bad thing. As Martin puts it, debt is only bad if it's bad debt (or something like that). I have to hold my hand up and take responsibility for my debt. I applied for it. I spent it. But at the same time we all know it's not responsible to lend someone twice what they earn.

But who is ultimately responsible? Me or the lendors?

I'd have to say me!

At the end of the day the banks are there to make money!
  • Martin, you are actually scaring me having a pop at that bloke!

    Good on you fella! ;)
  • How very sad...
I know when I was at my lowest, I wished to get cancer because I believed (wrongly!) that the PPI on my loans, CC's etc. would pay off my debt when I died.
Thank god it never happened and that I'm now dealing with my debt with the help of this site and CCCS.

Thank god for Martin. Seriously. There have been times when the only way out seemed to be to kill myself. MSE and the Debt Free wanabee forum have changed that forever- now I can be proactive and sort myself out - and I'm paying off debt faster than I ever could have imagined possible before I joined MSE. I wonder how many lives Martin personally has saved? Probably mine eventually. My best friend at school was devastated when her dad killed himself to escape his debts - and that was 14 years ago - this isn't a new problem. So, really what I wanted to say was THANK YOU MARTIN. You're an :A.

No disrespect to Martin as I [STRIKE]pretend to[/STRIKE] understand that it's not always possible to have hour shows for whatever reason but there seemed to be too many cases squeezed into the half hour! :o

I also think it's a shame this site never got plugged! :(
