Empty Properties in Birmingham

Hi Everyone,

I tried to find out details for empty properties from my local council (Birmingham City) and I was refused. I understood from the council's web site that I should be able to do this yet when I approached the properties department they refused siting the Data Protection act.

Has anyone been successful in obtaining information especially from Birmingham City Council. I have read on various websites that this information should be made available by the councils and there is even a bbc 1 programme regarding empty homes which will be showing on 14th Sept.

Is it not in the councils interest to get the empty homes habitable once again especially with the shortage of home which is always talked about in the news?

I can understand them asking questions but when they offer such service on the website and state that I can ask for such information and then contradict themselves when I do is a little strange.

I see quite a few properties in my area that don't seen to be occupied and I am sure there are others. With the so called housing shortage surely I will be doing them a favour in making the property habitable.

I just want to know if people have been sucessful this way finding a property.
