Cheap patio table idea - doable?

I'm looking for some advice from you thrifty people. I would like a wooden patio table for my new garden but I don't want to pay garden centre prices. Has anyone ever bought a cheap wooden table (junk shop, eBay etc) and painted it with exterior wood paint? Any thoughts on whether that would work?

Hello
The idea of a junk shop table is appealing- but problematic-
If you take indoor furniture and put it outside in wind and rain-it will most likely fall apart, outdoor paint or not. If it happens to be veneered the veneer will peel off and in any case damp will penetrate the joints and it will become rickety and then collapse.
This is a good time of year to look for end of season bargains in garden centres and the DIY sheds -garden stuff which is end of line, things with slight damage to top- that sort of thing - worth looking out for.
Best of luck
