Quince Trees

Hi all, I am posting on here for the first time today! I've been lurking in the shadows for some time now, and am looking for some help and advice.

Last year a friend of mine did a deal with me... He provided me with a bag full of quinces from his parent's garden (the large ones that look like misshapen pears as apposed to the flowering ones which make a small, but still edible, fruit about the size of a golf ball).
They were provided on the condition that when I made jelly from them he got 2 jars.

Now the resulting jelly was divine, the first jar went within the week and I'm just at the end of the very last jar, which is being used somewhat sparingly.:(

This moves me on rapidly towards my point.

I would like to replicate this jelly at some point in the future. HOWEVER my access to the fruit has gone, due to him moving away. Does anybody have any knowledge on how easy or difficult quince trees (Cydonia oblonga) are to propagate, how one would go about doing it.. and the biggest one of them all. Does anybody HAVE a quince tree that I might be able to take cuttings/pips in order to create a new plant?

I guess that they can be grown this way as I know quince root stock is used for pear trees, so I assume they don't need grafting..

Thankyou all in advance, and Its a pleasure to be a member of such a friendly forum :)

Chris

Buy one. Plenty of places online. Otherwise it will take years and years to get any fruit, probably will anyway.

Till then try freecycle, I'm sure most people have no idea of what to do with quinces and even if they did, couldn't be bothered.
Freedom is not worth having if it does not include the freedom to make mistakes.

I was afraid people might say that.. I was trying to avoid buying, as about the cheapest i've seen is £20 and being a poor penny-less student I was aiming for the cheaper option (this is MSE afterall).

I would ask on freecycle but I fear most people that know what they ARE will probably know what to do with them and those that don't know what they are will assume they are smelly pears, and as to it taking some time to produce.. what do we have if but all the time in the world, when it comes to free trees?

But i will keep looking :)
