Can I freeze a cooked pork roast?

Sadly, DH isn't very well this week and hasn't eaten for the last 3 days

He would choose to do this while I've got loads of fresh meat, too old for freezing, wouldn't he! :rotfl:

Anyway, I cooked a large roll of pork yesterday and he had a tiny bit, I had a proper helping, and there's still LOADS left. I'll never get through it alone! Can I freeze it?

TIA........

P.S. I also planned to cook some Iceland chicken yesterday as it was on its 'use by' date. It STANK!!! I skinned it and washed it, and it still stank. Put it inside 4 plastic bags (could still smell it) and marched it back to Iceland today for a refund. Quite good really - the packs were £2 or 2 for £3.50, when I bought them they rang up as 2 for £3, and the woman refunded me £2 without a murmur! :D

  • Yes, you can freeze it. I do this if I've any left. Put slices in foil, and freeze like that. Just remember though, he rule is: You can reheat ONCE. So you can make another roast dinner with it, heated up, but you can't let it cool and then reheat it! You can also use it in a meat dish, but again, if there is any left after that, bin it.

I agree about freezing the meat in gravy. Stops it drying out and curling up. But I usually make a very thin gravy when using it to freeze with meat as thick gravy tends to be a bit gloopy/lumpy when defrosted. I also use foil dishes and freeze mine in portion sizes, particularly if you have loads of it, and when you want to heat it up again just pop the foil container in the oven and make sure it is piping hot. I've been doing this for years. You can buy these from Wilko.
It's nice to be important, but it's more important to be nice.
