landlord contract

hi i have rented same place for near 10 years with out any problems
but this year i have started getting some out side paining work unfinished " said thay cant finish due to health & safety because it need a scafolding to do it"

got a knock on the door to be told the guy was here to inspect the roof for new insalation
he said i have to move everything out the roof for them to start i asked when for was not given a date

i have a few more people at the door to inspect or see if work needs done with out notice
i dont let them in

now i am told a new thing there doing is a yearly check of the building

what i need to no is can thay force me to clear the roof as when i moved in i was told its ok to put stuff up there as long as there is clear acsess to the water tank
i have bein signed off work by the doctor for nearly 15 years
and i find it hard to get up & down to the loft & i dont have the correct ladder & cant aford to pay somone to do it

    You should check your tenancy agreement. There should be a clause about allowing access for repairs. If the roof has to be cleared for them to do the repairs then you will have to. Have you explained this to the landlord to see if there is a solution? They should however give you notice they intend to visit to do the repairs or send someone to do them. Not just turn up unannouced.

    Sounds like your landlord is looking after the property. Surely this is of benefit to you?

    However you are entitled to advance warning of workmen coming round, and it should be in writing.

    I suggest you write to your LL thanking him for undertaking repairs, but asking him to give you written notice of which workmen will be coming and when.
